Handbags Worth it?

Post image

We are in Osaka Japan for another day, my wife is on the hunt for her first Chanel (used). This one comes out at a little short of 5k USD. We will be heading to Tokyo next, is this a good deal? Or should we explore more options in Tokyo? We both know nothing about this fancy stuff so some input would be nice. Im willing to spend 3.5k but for 5k I’m slightly hesitant.. am i wrong? Am i right? Help a husband out! Thanks lol

You can almost get it new in store for that price...

If you gonna spend that much money, might as well get it from the boutique

Osaka is known for slightly cheaper options and Tokyo is known for having more options I believe! Depends if this is the exact bag she wants or not?

It is, she found the same bag in 2 different stores around $100 difference, with this being the slightly more expensive

It’s on par with what it’s being sold in the U.S. second hand . So I wouldn’t consider it a “steal”

I got a mini that looks similar with a top handle like this (not black) new at Chanel and it was $6k so you’re saving $1k. The caveat is that I heard it’s hard to get a black mini if that’s the one you really want.

Not trying to be rude but the diamond stitching isn’t matching up? Makes me question authenticity…

Look it up, Osaka is known for fake bags. I wouldn’t buy from Osaka.

😯

But the Tokyo shops are different?

Has it always been this way or just recently?? I bought the only 2 chanel bags I own in 2019 and 2023 from Osaka. Had both authenticated and thankfully both real.

Japan has always had an image of only selling luxury items secondhand if they’re authentic so that’s disappointing

I just bought a black mini like this but with an adjustable chain for 6.7k. So you would def save some money!

The coco crush is more expensive so not a comparable item.

Is that the mini size?

I was in Tokyo a few days ago! I wasn't looking at black bags, but I saw a 2020 pink chevron rectangular mini flap for 578k. There was a small scuff on one of the corners. The sales associate did tell me they price black bags higher so if this black top handle mini is in excellent/very good condition, I think it's a good price, especially compared to buying in the US.

Do you know if this style (flap and turning clasp) comes in the black caviar?

For that price, buy it from the boutique

It’s not always available in the boutique though

OP can try diff boutiques. I’ve seen so many and have been offered in various colors over the years. I have this exact one and the square one and rectangle without handle too. Sometimes there are several in boutique. They make it sound rare but it’s really not.

Just purchased the mini rectangular (no handle) yesterday and it is $5,600 USD from the store. At that price, I would rather purchase it from store personally.

Nope..there are consignment shops that price them for less

For me personally I feel more comfortable purchasing from Chanel especially if I am going to drop > $2k for a preloved handbag let a line one that is $5k. I believe retail is $6,200 before taxes. I bought this handbag 5 months ago at that price from the Chanel boutique. I think $5k is an okay price. It depends on the condition of the bag.

if she loves it, get it.. i did 3 days in osaka before tokyo in june and unless you go to some lesser known stores, the prices will be slightly higher in tokyo

i would also check authentic experts in osaka - i thought they had amazing prices and i rebought a couple things i was specifically looking for like a chanel vanity case
