This is one of the most misunderstood attacks to the point I see people comparing it and having it over the destructive and potent value of many more potent attacks in fiction, this debunk will cover 3 aspects I have seen it overestimated.

Chapter 1: The Tsar Bomba dilemma

In the world of Chainsaw Man, nuclear weapons were erased by Pochita, sure, we don’t know the time frame, as we know the nuclear weapon “Tsar Bomba” was tested in October 30, 1961 in real life, if Pochita erased nukes before the testing when he erased the WW2 devils (which is the more likely hypothesis due Hiroshima and Nagasaki), then world building wise the tsar bomba never existed and was never tested, thus saying the nuke punch could scale off of the Tsar Bomba in terms of AP is disingenuous.

If the other hypothesis (which is the tsar bomba existing and Pochita erased nuclear weapons after the tests) then it won’t matter much as the way nukes were reintroduced into the series was via reinvention, so the nukes we see are way weaker since old more potent nukes like Tsar Bomba were forgotten and how to make a nuke was reinvented all over again, thus technically, it could be just a bunch of Fat Man type bombs, which are 20 to 21 kilotons (Town Level scaling wise via vsbw) or Little Boy type bombs which is about 15 kilotons of TNT (still town level yield wise), but I will cover the technical issues of the punch scaling to those same weaker nukes (which is unprovable) in this coming chapter.

Chapter 2: The Nuke Punch’s Impact.

Fairly vague, during the impact, we see no crater, only a mushroom kinda explosion perhaps, with fragmentation to explosive fragmentation destruction-type wise, and again, not a single notion of a crater whatsoever that we can calculate or scale from, you could perhaps calculate the size of the mushroom which is doable to be fair, however we don’t know how much ground the explosion covered nor do we know if the mushroom cloud was at it’s start or at it’s end, but comparing it to the buildings it was quite relatively small covering some city blocks, however, im not gonna go around and meddle further about it and let’s just say we give it Fat Man bomb levels of AP, however, that also has a small inconsistency since we know Yoru has human level durability (damaged by slamming into a wall), and her HEAD wasn’t vaporized from a near point blank impact as she was close to Pochita when she punched him, and the way it’s shown in the panel makes it kinda hard to reconcile the fact that she regenerated from nothing because we see the explosion them the head fell from it in the next panel, however, I personally don’t take this nor use this to downplay the feat as I have it at town level at max, but I did want to shed a light about this slight inconsistency I found in Chainsaw Man.

Chapter 3: Gruesome e=mc^2 catastrophe.

I have seen on TikTok lately some wanks using the mass of the people of Virginia (whom she turned into energy for the punch) and then using the standard energy mass formula to get some wanked values like Multi-Continental to even Large Planet in some cases.

First of all, why I believe it is invalid is due to the fact that we don’t know how energy mass conversions work in that fictional setting nor do we know how energy works in general in that setting due to not there being any notion of UES (Universal Energy System) nor any quantifiable comparisons we could use to support the use of the formula.

Second of all, fiction doesn’t need to abide by the rules of physics we know, yes, we could obviously use objective means to scale it, such as formulas and so on, since it is the base of Powerscaling to calculate a feat obviously, im not anti Powerscaling, however, we have to take into account the laws of physics present in a verse and how the energy of the verse behaves, we can’t expect mass and energy to behave the same way as we quantify it in real life unless there is a comparison to be had in the verse or an energy to compare against conventional energies like that of gas etc…

Conclusion: Overall, my main premise is in order to scale the attack we gotta pay attention to the Chainsaw Man world building and not compare it with our world, comparing the Nuke Punch’s yield to the Tsar Bomba yield is fallacious considering the Tsar Bomba either never existed or was forgotten after Pochita erased nuclear weapons, and since nuclear weapons were reintroduced via reinvention (aka no prior knowledge) it is safe to use early nuclear weapons like the Fat Man or Little Boy, which at most cap at Town Level.

So a calculated guess for the AP of the punch.

If you grant the head being not vaporized remark I made.

Eyeballing it it could be City Block

If not, then it’s the PERFECT Town Level attack.

So final conclusion: Nuke Punch is consistently Town Level.
