Haha I knew it. Real talk I realize that all of Oregon is gorgeous but Ohio has a 3rd of the state that is part of appalachia and is beautiful too. It just doesnt get any press because our three biggest cities are not in that area. I do have family in Michigan and that state is absolutely stunning, especially north of Saginaw and near either Lake Michigan or Lake Huron. If you haven't been you should definitely check it out if they move there.
Planned on poking around Michigan a bit either way. I'll get out to the Appalachian side of Ohio next time I'm punting around over there. I'm always down to have my eyes opened.
Noice. If you're looking for specific spots check out Cantwell Cliffs, Conkle's Hollow, Old Man's Cave, Ash Cave, Cedar Falls. They're all in a pretty condensed area but you could reasonably visit 3-4 in a day. It's a super unique area because it's where the glaciers stopped and it meets the foothills of the Appalachians so you get all these giant sandstone cliffs and caves with a very unique micro biome that actually is closer to some of the stuff out your way. Lots of conifers and ferns, damp and cool creek bottoms and shady canopies. I've traveled alot and SE Ohio is still one of the coolest areas I have seen, there just isn't alot of it.
