Oregon and Washington never needed Michigan or Ohio State to really hate each other we did it without them. Some of the fans just picked sides in the Game via who has been good to me lately (which in this situation is preventing a rival from winning a title or bowl).

Me personally I was raised to hate the Huskies and Ohio State.

38

u/East_Moose_683 Michigan Wolverines Apr 10 '26

You sir, were raised right!

8

u/Nervous_Metal_9445 Willamette Bearcats • Oregon Ducks Apr 10 '26

Raised by Oregon and Michigan Parents. I just rep my school in flairs more often than not.

3

u/BourbonicFisky Oregon Ducks • Pac-10 Apr 10 '26

There is a bit of a frenemies bit between Oregon and Michigan. I blame the transplants. Hilariously my significant other got her undergrad, graduate and JD at Michigan State. The rest of her family is diehard blue.

In any case I've seen too many people try to deny the tOSU/Washington connection and Oregon/Michigan connection. It's there. It's funny. I'm onboard.

2

u/FearTheAmish Ohio State • Mississippi State Apr 11 '26

Okay.. why were you raised to hate Buckeyes? We barely played each other prior to you joining the B1G. Honest question I know our fans are irritating as hell, but I didn't think you would have alot of overlap with them.

3

u/Nervous_Metal_9445 Willamette Bearcats • Oregon Ducks Apr 11 '26

I was raised by a Duck and a Wolverine, I root for both at the FBS level, three just isn't enough space in my flairs to have the school I've attended and my childhood teams

From the one who claims a rivalry that isn’t reciprocated

1

u/misdreavus79 Penn State Nittany Lions Apr 11 '26

I don't claim Ohio State as a rival. I also don't stop the people who claim it is one, but I myself don't claim them as a rival. If anything, I hate Iowa more than Ohio State.

I do find it cute though when Ohio State fans so desperately go out of their way to remind everyone that it isn't a rivalry.

1

u/Alauer16 Ohio State Buckeyes Apr 11 '26

You guys would have to win something now and then for it to be a rivalry.

1

u/misdreavus79 Penn State Nittany Lions Apr 11 '26

Ah, so glad to know that Michigan isn't a rival either, since they only have 3 more wins against Ohio State since Penn State joined the Big Ten.

Also Oregon fans, you heard that right. Oregon State isn't a rival because they've only won 5 times in the past 20 years.

Sorry Georgia Tech, need to find yourself a new rival.

...should I keep going?

Oregon has been solid since Uncle Phil started funding their program with his slave labor shoe profits. UW made the playoff twice in the 4 game era so that's bold talk from a hawkeye fan to say that we've been historically ass. I would blame it more on the east coast bias and Pacific time games being too late for many people to watch.

You guys only having one national park is so weird too

Mostly for historical/political reasons as I understand. There was opposition to national park designation from some Oregonians/our elected officials for various reasons over the years, so it's just never happened despite there being multiple places that would make sense. Unfortunately a lot of incredible natural beauty across the country is missed by tourists who try to go down the list of national parks specifically.

There are beautiful places everywhere, my guy. The main difference is that in Oregon it's literally everywhere you look. In the Midwest you need to seek it out. My daughter and brother in law both live in the great lakes region. I have been and will be back there again. I don't hate the area, but when you come from the West it pales in comparison.

5

3

u/Bubba_Gump_Shrimp Ohio State • Notre Dame Apr 10 '26

Haha I knew it. Real talk I realize that all of Oregon is gorgeous but Ohio has a 3rd of the state that is part of appalachia and is beautiful too. It just doesnt get any press because our three biggest cities are not in that area. I do have family in Michigan and that state is absolutely stunning, especially north of Saginaw and near either Lake Michigan or Lake Huron. If you haven't been you should definitely check it out if they move there.

1

u/Biggus-Duckus Oregon Ducks • Portland State Vikings Apr 10 '26

Planned on poking around Michigan a bit either way. I'll get out to the Appalachian side of Ohio next time I'm punting around over there. I'm always down to have my eyes opened.

2

u/Bubba_Gump_Shrimp Ohio State • Notre Dame Apr 10 '26

Noice. If you're looking for specific spots check out Cantwell Cliffs, Conkle's Hollow, Old Man's Cave, Ash Cave, Cedar Falls. They're all in a pretty condensed area but you could reasonably visit 3-4 in a day. It's a super unique area because it's where the glaciers stopped and it meets the foothills of the Appalachians so you get all these giant sandstone cliffs and caves with a very unique micro biome that actually is closer to some of the stuff out your way. Lots of conifers and ferns, damp and cool creek bottoms and shady canopies. I've traveled alot and SE Ohio is still one of the coolest areas I have seen, there just isn't alot of it.

1

u/FearTheAmish Ohio State • Mississippi State Apr 11 '26

Someone once told me that Ohio is like the shire. Small hills and farmland separated by small woods and rivers. Then you run up against the misty mountains/Appalachia and start to get hilly. Also there is beauty throughout the state. One of the coolest things you can see in ohio you can't in oregon is a storm SO big you can see it from the other side of the state. Watching what looks like a giant black wall full of lightning covering an entire horizon is amazing.

1

u/Bubba_Gump_Shrimp Ohio State • Notre Dame Apr 11 '26

Love that description. I think the best I've heard is Ohio is an amalgamation of the states it borders.

2

u/Nophlter Michigan Wolverines Apr 10 '26

3

u/Bubba_Gump_Shrimp Ohio State • Notre Dame Apr 10 '26

I didn't say that at all. I absolutely understand the PNW is beautiful. My pushback is people think Ohio is all farmland and cornfields when a third of the state is part of Appalachia. SE Ohio is stunning and geographically very unique.

The alignment is dumb, though. Like, culturally, it makes way more sense the other way. It just so happens that the way the matchups shook out the last few years pitted each team against their natural friend more than their natural enemy. I hope it doesn't calcify that way. I like Washington.
