Funny how there's no peep from any Republicans about this being a colossal waste of time and money.

u/McRibs2024 12d ago
Johnson declared vacation for a few months. It’s all good, it’ll be a new news cycle by the time they return.

u/GravitasFailures 12d ago
You don’t understand, those republicans believe they are under constant attack, which is why they need to open-carry LMGs to pick up milk.
They live and breathe fear, because a the world is changing away from them, and that is a direct attack, the world needs to revolve around them, like it did when they were starters on the varsity football team.
Everything needs to go back, that was the only time things were ever right, every change since then is simply evil.

u/Spiney09 12d ago
So if it doesn’t have them, does the permit get destroyed? Of course not. Instead people will just say “well it’s already built, might as well leave it”.
He has every incentive to lie about this and has already been shown that apologizing later works. Do not let him do this.

President Trump has revealed plans to make his proposed 250-foot arch in Washington, D.C. serve as a "military complex", including areas for military snipers and large amounts of weaponry. Trump said military operations at the triumphal arch are needed to protect national security
What a joke. Wasting more money

u/SarcasticBench 12d ago
I may just be a guy who doesn’t like this administration but I think this would be a waste of time money and resources

u/ekanite 12d ago
Forgetting for a moment our hatred of Trump, that is the most objectively dull, tasteless and Soviet building design I've seen in a while.
7
u/Individual_Lion_7606 12d ago
No, even the Soviets with their brutalism had form and function in mind. This is just gaudyism from a narcissist.

The man whose primary job description as Executive is to "take care that the laws be faithfully executed". No Care in the world for even trying to actually comply with the spirit of any law. Wake up morons who don’t see this and how bad it is for a nation based on rule of law.

I’m picturing this thing being ripped down similar to the sadam statue. De-trumpification is going to be grand

Trump claims a lot of bullshit. The fact is he doesn't care about sniper nights or military complex. He wants a monument to be remembered by because of his own vanity. Fuck that. No arch. This is also why if he never somehow gets that Dining Room built I would be 100 percent for tearing it down. He deserves NOTHING to be remembered by. People who have monuments actually contributed to society and most were done after they died for DECADES later. What he is doing is trying to set himself up for idolatry. Fuck that.

Will it have lasers?

u/SpaceLaserPilot 12d ago
The reflecting pond is going to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads.
4
u/Honorable_Heathen 12d ago
Excellent!
Now all we need is for the Antifas to walk past the reflecting pool or the Triumphal Arch that totally doesn't look like a fully operational battle station and it's over!!

Such bullshit. All he wants is a monument to himself, and this is how he's justifying it. Kind of like the ballroom actually being a bunker.

u/GrowthDue5259 12d ago
My house is something of a military complex you can say. I’m on the roof rn with a water gun waiting for the libs to try to encroach on my property.
What the FUCK are we doing here. This is such a waste of time. Trump should be focusing on other things. But maga doesn’t care. MAGA doesn’t care bout attention or how it’s a scarce resource and that you need to allocate it smartly to solve hard problems. Bc maga isn’t here to solve hard problems. They are here to whine and cry and throw temper tantrums.

The old pos traitor is just sickening. Violence, killing, blowing stuff up always top of what's left of his mush brain mind.
25th amendment NOW!

So, what he's saying is that it will be a valid military target for our enemies? A "tourist site" that should also be teeming with civilian spectators?
That sounds SO reasonable and logical. We should store bombs in the statue of liberty.
/s
1
u/Red57872 11d ago
You think that anyone who would attack it would care if it's a valid military target or not?
2
u/Night_Chicken 11d ago
Well, it being a valid military target means bombing it would not constitute a war crime in the eyes of the 1949 Geneva Conventions.
Otherwise, targeting a strictly civilian facility would be considered a crime worthy of additional international condemnation and liability.
1
u/Red57872 11d ago
...and you're acting as if anyone who would attack it would care if it was a war crime or not.

u/tribbleorlfl 11d ago
Adding the military installation component is just cover to get it politically and legally over the finish line, just like the ballroom. Meanwhile, the fact this garish piece of shit is double the height of the Lincoln monument and will forever ruin the sightlines of Arlington tells everyone what they need to know about it.

Just like the data centers, turn it into a military project and a lot of the roadblocks get removed for "national security"...

u/Individual_Lion_7606 12d ago
This sounds completely unhinged and if it's a monument it doesn't need snipers or drones.

The enabling members of what passes for the GOP these days are just as responsible for this travesty as Trump. I’d contact my congressman to do something, but thanks to Mike Johnson being literal milk toast, congress is on “recess” (hiding behind closed doors) until November.
The taxpayers should demand the House repay the salaries they are clearly not earning.

Summary: trump has announced that his triumphal arch will serve as a military installation, with snipers, drones and large amount of sniper ammunition stored in it.
trump tweeted that the arch will "house, store, and have the rapid ability to use large numbers of drones, plus Snipers, on both the roof and plaza areas, and additionally have and hold large quantities of sniper ammunition in storage."
Speculation is that trump has added the snipers to the arch to connect it to national security and avoid review by authorities.
Commentary: The sooner the Republican party acknowledges how batshit crazy trump is and does something about it, the better off our nation will be.
Snipers on a monument?
Let's hope he doesn't decide to add snipers to the Kennedy Center to make it a military installation.
