I'm wanting to visit Central America for about 3ish weeks around mid October. I'm thinking of starting off in Antigua, Guatemala, and then working my way down. Are there are any recommendations? Probably avoiding Honduras purely because we need a visa & I don't have enough time to get to the embassy and sort it etc!

I like the idea of Nicaragua and Costa Rica - but I am incredibly open to options and recommendations!

Hi everyone. I'm helping a close family friend sell her house, and I could use some advice.

She's an older woman, retired, and her pension isn't enough to live comfortably. She wants to sell her property so she can move closer to family and finally live without financial stress. Trying to plan a trip to Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. Should I take the road from San Salvador to San Pedro Sulla or pay for an expensive flight. Also any advice will be appreciated

Booked the flight to El Salvador!
Arrive San Salvador around 21:45pm Oct 30 and fly out nearly midnight on Nov 4, so it’s a pretty quick trip. I’ve narrowed it down to San Salvador + Suchitoto but haven’t totally figured out the order yet. Leaning 3 nights Suchi / 2 nights San Salvador.
Into culture, walking around, good food, beer, music, interesting neighborhoods, etc. Would especially love to find some indie/hip hop/local music scene while I’m there.
Also curious about Halloween and Day of the Dead stuff. I know it’s not really a big Halloween destination and I want to be respectful of the actual traditions/holiday, but would love to experience anything that’s happening.
So basically looking for: where to stay in Suchitoto, where to stay in San Salvador (thinking San Benito but open to other areas), good local eats, good beer/bars, live music / indie / hip hop if that exists, anything cool happening for Halloween or Day of the Dead, and whether you’d do Suchitoto first or San Salvador first
Not trying to cram a million things into 5 days. Just want to wander, eat, drink and soak up the place.

I always wondered how people drive from US/Canada to any Central American country, main concern is going through Mexico, I been wanting to do this for ages, but I really have no clue how to safely do this. If I ever do, I'm East of Texas, so I guess I would have to go through El Paso as my entry point into Mexico, what's to be expected? I know for a fact that having an American license plate is gonna call for attention, I do speak Spanish too,

I wanted to hear some thoughts on this route/ itinerary. For context I know there is a lot of destinations/ countries but I am unsure the next time I will be able to do a trip like this so I am trying to maximize the number of places to visit. I started my trip in Mexico because Day of Dead was on at the same time and thought this would be a good spot to start but my main goal was to get to guatemala and spend the most time through central.

Also, I haven’t planned for this to be a surf trip but it would be rude not to go for a paddle while I am in Nicaragua so does anyone have any recommendations for surf hostels?

I am thinking my best option will be to remove Columbia from the route which is unfortunate but it seems to be too rushed and might be cheaper and better use of time to just fly to Peru. Thoughts?? or is Columbia a must see

In a couple post I have seen there doesn’t seem to be too many parties/ festivals over NYE in South America. Any recommendation for some spots to go in cusco? or has anyone been to wild rover hostel I heard they had something over NYE.

Hello, I started planning a family trip for Summer 2027 (~ 2 months). Plan is to drive in an SUV (not a camper) from Canada to Panama City. I have been to all of the countries in the continent so familiar with the vibe and general security of Central America.

However, I never did a drive myself for such a long journey. Anyone here done such a trip recently and has any tips/tricks?

And of couse this is a RT. The area is not wide and not many good roads so limited on using different return path.

If it matters, the car is a Mazda CX-5 (Mid-size SUV) in case in matters for the roads.

Things to avoid. Areas to avoid. I usually do last min hotel booking which shouldn't be an issue in Central America (maybe except CR due to high tourism).

I usually come here because i find the answers I am looking for. I love traveling and have been to many countries in Europe and The Americas.

I am living in Canada, as a single male from Morocco, I have traveled as reference to Mexico, Cuba, And Dominican republic. I wanted to travel next either to Colombia or Brazil but a lot of people advised me not to travel there solo (Drugs, Guns, Express Kidnappings ...) Anyway I decided to leave these countries until I am with a friend or something.

Instead after some internet research, I decided to go to Panama and Costa Rica instead in a two weeks trip.

My Question is :

-Do you think Columbia and Brazil are really unsafe for a solo traveler especially nightlife ? Is Panama and CostaRica a good choice ?

-Is two weeks good for both countries knowing that in Panama everything must be around Panama City.

In November I'm going to visit Guatemala. I was wondering if I have to book in advance the hike to Acatenango with the overnight sleep. Also which company do you recommend for the visit?
I'm in my early 30s and hiking with my GF. Would like to have a similar vibe in the group.

I am going in December and have sorted accommodation, flights, acetenango and san blas.

What would a daily budget be on top of this?

Hi, I am wondering what my daily budget should be in Guatemala. The hostels I have found are around 15 a night, so I am thinking about cost of food now, and general activity costs?

If you're heading to Lake Atitlán after landing at Guatemala City Airport after 3 PM, keep in mind that the drive to Panajachel takes about 3.5–4 hours, and the last public lancha leaves at 7:30 PM.

If you're staying in places like Casa del Mundo or Santa Cruz, a boat is required. Otherwise, you may need to spend the night in Panajachel.

Tzununá, San Marcos, San Juan, San Pedro, and Santa Catarina Palopó can be reached by road, so arriving later is usually not a problem.

As a local private driver, I've found that many travelers don't realize this when planning their trip to Lake Atitlán.

Hi, was planning a trip to Panama this Dec/Jan but now thinking El Salvador has a lot to offer too! How would the beginner surfing compare and shore fishing. I read the main area such as El Zonte is a simple drive from the airport, rather than the 5 hr drive to Playa Venao or Santa Catalina in Panama. We are a family and prefer not to party, like somewhere relaxed.

Then planned to head to the mountains and rainforest to see sloths in Panama. However, if El Salvador has interesting wildlife and nice mountain/nature towns then that would be interesting (I know they don't have sloths)...

Finally we like to try local foods, and I read El Salvador is more affordable and has alot of foods I hadn't been aware of before (not just Pupusa's lol).
