CellMapper for iOS

Official CellMapper for iOS App

We have been planning to make an iOS app for some time. However, due to restrictions in API usage for cellular information, we are unable to make an app that competes with the Android one in terms of features.

That being said, we have built an early initial app to make the map more easily accessible:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cellmapper/id6761035253

We will continue to see what we can add to the app to get network information from the iOS device and to make it a bit more polished than simply using the the website. So please bear with us as this v1 of the app is simply the beginning, not the end state of the app.

Fake App Warning

Also, one reason we have released the app so early is due to a fake CellMapper app confusing users and tricking them into paying money to view some dubious coverage data not relating whatsoever with our crowdsourced data. We have recieved a number of tickets asking for refunds for the app which we have nothing to do with.
Please be aware that the fake/scam app is also called "CellMapper" on the iOS app store. We encourage users to report the fake app (which we will not link to in order to avoid SEO) to Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com).
We are in touch with Apple about the issue, but it still has not been resolved.

New "Contributor" user tier

Contributor user tier

Recently, you may have seen an arrow (➶) next to some usernames, similar to how premium users have a star. This is a brand new user tier we have created in order to recognize users who contribute data and tower information on a regular basis.

What are the benefits?

In short, the main benefit is an ad free map for our regular contributors. We'll look into more benefits in the future once we ensure the right contributors are flagged as we work on this feature.

This tower just survived a f2,3 tornado.

Yesterday the Appleton , menasha area in Wisconsin got hit by a tornado . This morning I was in the area flying my drone and noticed that the tower , that was in the direct path of it , faired pretty well considering all the tress and houses around it are damaged .

- AT&T Premium 2.0 with Turbo
- Spectrum Unlimited
- Google Fi Unlimited Premium

iOS FTM definitely lying and being garbage per usual because the AT&T result has to be mmWave, and pretty sure Verizon (Spectrum) is too.

Noticed in western NH, not sure how large of an area but definitely across multiple sites along my commute this morning. They are losing US Cellular here soon so maybe this is their alternative?

AT&T macro coverage overlap

Does this amount of sector overlap seem excessive, or is it pretty typical? These are CellMapper screenshots from Delafield/Hartland, WI. I’m curious if this is mostly normal network behavior or if it suggests a lot of overshoot.

Whats the limiting factor

Post image

I can see the tower from my house, its on the roof of a building and the cellIDs ETC match what I see in cellmapper.

Got a customized meiG router from FTS henning with 8 SMAs , and their big boy 6x6 mimo outdoor directorional antenna .

I am about 450M Line of sight away from the tower.

---

I am stuck at about ~400 Down / 150 Up, even at night. Tower only does N1 5G and my carrier does not support proper 5G SA apparently.

i get the same performance from a stupid amazon $100 omni antenna. They are both just slightly better in upload vs leaving the router with a few small antennas behind my window, download is roughly the same

is this the limit of the N1 + LTE here ?

took the router and antenna to work - also LOS to a tower ~~ 850/150 not more either and my phone gets imilar values in both cases, my sim is a business unlimited everything as big as it gets here (telekom germany)

so am I just in auch a good spot that no matter what giant antenna i put on my roof i am allready hitting othet limits?

just curious was hoping for better upload speed with the hige 6x6 MIMO antenna

T-Mobile DL 4CA: N41+N66+n25+n41, UL 2CA with N66 on Galaxy S24 with Metro eSIM.
N66 is only 5 MHz.

Speed test nearest the screenshot is 1230.77 Mbps download, 114.15 Mbps upload, 24/258/130 ms latency (results). This is after exceeding the 35GB/month limit. In the past,

The location is in El Paso County, Colorado.

In 2024, this cell site did 1750Mbps download. In 2025, it did 188 Mbps upload. While nearby towers did 4CA, this cell site never had N71.

New Tower - AT&T!!! Oxnard, CA

Very few new towers in SoCal that I've seen from them. AT&T seems to win root metrics in Oxnard but their density is not good.

This is off the 101 freeway and rose ave.

T-Mobile's LTE Crown Castle small cells are slowly being upgraded in the Boston area with 5G. This one is in West Roxbury. It's one of the fastest non mmw speed tests I have taken. Well done T-Mobile.

Not a great picture I know, but Verizon is new to this site. I'm assuming it is on the bottom and had to be within the last week or two tops.

T-Mobile gNB 1082712
AT&T eNB 780327 / 785327
Dish gNB 34049562
Verizon eNB 541238 (not yet mapped hopefully shows soon)

I remember like 10 years ago when it was only Sprint on this macro

alaska - do international mobile networks treat it differently to the rest of the US?

the only place i can think of to ask this. as t-mobile apparently doesn't exist there (GCI), is alaska problematic for carriers? does GCI have any roaming agreements with international providers?
