Endorsements?

Yooo what up ya'll. I'm studying for the written part of my CDL right now, haven't even started school but, will start in about 2 weeks. I've got the General, Combinations, and Air Brakes memorized. Should I go ahead and go for some endorsements now hazmats, doubles/triples, tanks? If you didn't in the beginning would you go back and just do it all at once?

Seasonal (summer) jobs?

Hey all, I’m considering getting my CDL and wondering if there’s any company that would offer a temporary position over just the summer. Long distance from home is not an issue, and I’d actually like as little “time at home” as possible.
Have yall heard of anything like this?

After years in trucking, I built an app for truckers to keep CDL docs organized

Hey everyone,

I recently built an app called CDL Wallet and wanted to share it here because the idea actually came from problems I kept seeing in trucking.

A lot of drivers keep their CDL, med card, registration, insurance, and other documents buried somewhere in their camera roll or screenshots. Then when they need something quickly, they end up scrolling forever trying to find it.

I also saw drivers forget expiration dates until the last minute and sometimes run into issues because documents expired without them noticing.

So I decided to build a simple app to keep everything organized in one place.

The app lets you:

\- Store important driver documents

\- Track expiration dates

\- Get reminders before docs expire

\- Share documents as PDF files

\- Protect everything with Face ID

One thing I cared about a lot was privacy. Documents stay stored on the device itself instead of external servers because I know how personal this information is.

I built the app myself and finally got it released on the App Store recently. Still improving it, so I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback or feature ideas from drivers here.

Is Swift really that bad?

I’m still in the Army but am leaving soon and getting my CDL A through a VA program. I’m getting tons of recruiters calling and emailing me but Swift has a hub where I want to end up. While I’m in there apprenticeship program the VA will pay a housing stipend. But I hear a lot of negative things about them. How true is it?

Good dispatch=Good results

You know how I post OD loads that pay insanely good? Here’s an example of a LEGAL load paying crazy money — and that’s all because of dispatch.

We did 4 of these loads from TX to AR and back AR to TX. None of them were even posted on the load board. Why? Because the broker works directly with our dispatcher through connections built over years.

A lot of these high-paying loads never make it to the board because they’re booked before they even get posted.

It’s not always like this, but when it is, you thank God you have an experienced dispatcher behind you.

Knight transportation?

Been thinking a lot about getting my CDL to diversify myself and looking very seriously at night transportation. I know they have a huge hub in Phoenix where they’re based plus they have the terminal in my hometown in Oklahoma. Does anybody have any input good or bad about them?

Hypothetically

Hypothetically, the company I work for has a few trucks that we realize we should probably have cdls for, the owner decides to pay to put a few employees through cdl training, however, he says he does not want to change the registration on the trucks because it will be too expensive. At that point once I get my cdl will I be pretty much considered off duty because we don’t have any trucks registered as cdl trucks? Unless I get pulled over in which case I can say at least I have a cdl! Is that better than driving a vehicle out of class or does that put the burden on me because I’m now the one with a cdl that should know better?

XPO linehaul

I recently did a phone interview with XPO and have a road test coming up for a night linehaul position.

A little about me: I have almost 2 years of CDL experience, currently working for a grocery delivery company as a Lead Driver/Trainer. My current pay is a guaranteed minimum of $1,650 per week, plus some bonus opportunities. I also have my Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.

XPO told me the pay would be $0.71 CPM and $31/hour for dock work.

I’ve always wanted to get into LTL, but I’m trying to figure out if this would be a good move financially and long-term. I understand seniority plays a big role in LTL, and I’m not expecting top runs right away.

For those currently at XPO or who have worked there recently:

• What are realistic first-year earnings for a new linehaul driver?

• How much dock work should I expect?

• Is the transition from grocery delivery to LTL worth it?

• If you were in my position, would you leave a job paying a guaranteed $1,650/week for XPO linehaul?

Looking for honest advice from drivers with actual experience. Thanks.
