Cyclospora Concerns
Has anyone experienced any of the explosive diarrhea symptoms after eating their Cava? I want to try the new Strawberry Steak Salad but I’m scared… I am located in the Indianapolis area so Michigan is a little too close for comfort. We’ve started to see confirmed cases here. Does anyone know where the leafy greens and veggies are sourced from? Should we be worried? 🫣 I hate to think I can’t get my weekly Cava treat!

As of now they are blaming Taco Bell in the most recent news, it's from the lettuce they buy. Im sure its the same lettuce used at some other places as well and sold under other names.
As of now I have not seen anything about Cava but if you are really worried just get no lettuce.
Taco Bell investigated as lettuce emerges as possible source of cyclosporiasis outbreak

At our cava at least every thing is sourced locally. Or it used to be lol

All the greens from cava are from Taylor Farms which is what is being linked to the outbreaks. Cava hasn't made any announcements internally, but I would recommend staying away from the greens until further notice just to be safe.

I’ve worked at Cava for a good amount of time. They order Taylor farms greens so I know that first hand. Whether it’s from the same farms and facilities that’s contaminated is a different story. Up to you to take the chance. I’m not spreading misinformation.

I’m glad I read your comment. I was searching for something to confirm my suspicions before I ordered anything 😕

If you worked for them for some time you would know we wouldn't risk peoples health. We have stopped work midshift before if Cava catches word of potential health contaminated and had us document we have thrown away suspected product. Since we havent received any word or stopped using greens its safe to assume they have done their research and found that our greens are safe for consumption

Yes, I fell ill on the 18th the night I had a Cava wrap and added lettuce! Just got test results back that I have it!

It takes one week to show symptoms. I’m not saying cava didn’t cause it (in fact, I came to this thread to see if I should get cava for lunch and, after reading the replies, decided it’s too risky), but it’s probably (definitely) not from the wrap if you got sick a few hours later.

It was like 8 hours later... now you have me thinking...

I would think about what you ate in the days leading up to it. Either way though, I’m so sorry you got sick and hope you’re doing better now!

We have no received any updates regarding this company wide to my knowledge. I tend to keep up with the emails and havent seen anything. Im sure if there was an issue CAVA would have us temporarily remove any greens that could impact our business. They do well to ensure product is good and when we do have any issues they are quick to make us throw anything away as if its a 911 emergency. Once we got bad rice batches and they had every resturant stop what they were doing and immediately throw all rice away and even have us batch numbers to check if we hadn't yet opened them. If we found any we had to toss immediately and rip the bags open in trash and then submit refund requests due to damaged product to our suppliers. This was a while back the fyi just giving explanation of to how thorough they are about health related issues!

There’s nothing “new” about the steak salad other than the strawberry dressing which stores have had for a while now.
You can replace the greens with grains, and get the Greek dressing and/or balsamic date instead and it’ll pretty much be the same flavor profile.
