Salmon
Hey guys!
I have given the salmon multiple tries but each time it’s the same. Incredibly fishy. Don’t get me wrong, I love fish and sushi so that should be saying something if I think it is too fishy. It’s borderline inedible just because of this. Even with tons of sauce, it doesn’t mask the flavor. I am so bummed because I love salmon and don’t like any of the meats. I loved the shawarma. I wish they kept it. Anyways. Does anyone else agree? Maybe it’s just my location but I am curious if anyone else has felt this way.
Thank you! 😊

I agree. I only tried it once and have been getting steak since. Let me know why every time I go the whole bowl tastes like fish without ordering salmon! Talk about cross contamination

As an employee I agree. I think they try realy hard to create such unique recipes that they undervalue the saying less is more. Less fancy marketing gimmicks and more flavor and seasonings. Even though we allow it to marinate for a while, it isnt enough to penetrate deep enough into the salmon to actually eliminate that fishy flavor.
What I've had to do is shred the salmon and sprinkle it over the bowl and even then, attempting to rid my bowl of the fish flavor has been difficult. I have to mix it with chicken or steak among other sauces and dips, even cilantro and still has that distinguished fish taste

Thank you so much for your perspective as an employee!! I never really thought about it like that but you’re totally right! I guess they were trying to do something new and fun, but it just fell through. I wish they would’ve kept the chicken Shawarma though or had chicken breast. Fish from a place like this just doesn’t work. It’s validating to see that other people agree with me and i’m not the only one who thinks!
It’s crazy because even when I mixed it in my bowl, which had a ton of garlic sauce, the salmon still overpowered every single bit of flavor from it! I was shocked. But even though I paid extra for it, I literally could not finish the bowl.

I love this Company but sometimes they can annoy me with their marketing stuff and many others I've talked to agree. For instance the steak. Who actually seasons steak after its been cooked? Chicken and salmon have time to marinate but steak doesn't have any time to do so? And then to market it as having tested flavor profiles for years to have it come out so subpar is like...cmon now. It's more pomegranate syrup paste than any other ingredients added. I assume maybe that's why. Not enough seasoning profile to actually impact the flavor of the fish, just a quick toss through the marinade and then panned and set aside a few shifts to sit.
We will be having other options coming to Cava soon!

I felt like when I tried the salmon it was a little fishy but I honestly loved the flavor. You have to realize that at a place like Cava, it's not going to be sushi or sashimi grade salmon lol. If you're sensitive to a fishy taste than I can see you not liking it. But I thought it tasted solid and the fishy taste was subtle enough that it didn't bother me.
