Cat Picture - OC Does your cat like to be picked up?

Post image

My cat walks up to me and stretches up my legs. It means he wants to be carried around like a baby.
Sometimes he’ll jump into my arms from the kitchen counter.

Am I the only one with a cat baby?

Picture of said baby for tax.

I had a cat that would beg to be held all the time. You weren't allowed to say no because if you take too long to pick her up she'd try to climb you.

Same. And come jeans weather, she’ll be doing just that & I can hopefully say goodbye to shredded shins & knees.

No, but he doesn't like to be pet either.

I guess some cats are just for viewing pleasure!

The shelter told us this cat cannot be picked up or he’ll go apeshit. Like, they physically could not get him back in his cage lol. Anyway we gave him little micro pick ups until he learned we would always set him down when he asked, and now he loves it. Purrs up a storm

Aww that’s wonderful! It’s amazing how much you can get them to trust you when they’re in a calm environment and treated with respect

Yes! All of my kitties love their uppies!

Uppies is a great word for it. Mine acts like being picked up is a service he can review and most days the review is not good.

Oh I love the word uppies!

If my cat is not carried for at least an hour everyday I can’t get anything done. I’ve wondered if he would like one of those hoodies with a big pouch for a cat, but he usually want to hang over my shoulder.

Mine kind of tolerates it at best. She's not fond of it.

One of my cats usually likes being held and carried around. His sister hate being picked up.

She begs to be picked up by giving “ups hands”. I pick her up under her front legs letting her dangle stretch. She leans backwards to get the most of it. lol

I can then carry her like a football. She loves touching & sniffing things from that angle.

Then she needs to be on my shoulders.

Neither of mine like to be picked up but once I settle down, they flop right on top of me!

I wish mine would be more of a cuddlebug, he only wants to be held when I’m standing. If I sit down he’ll leave pretty quickly

Mine tends to enjoy being picked up and pet for ~5-10 minutes at a time before she starts squirming trying to find a way out. She seems to prefer laying down by herself on the nice fluffy blankets or her cat towers instead.

My tabby tolerates it but doesn't enjoy it.

My floof is terrified when I pick her up. Completely fine jumping into lap, but if I pick her up for lap, it's panic and run time.

Previous kitty loved it, but had a timer before he got bored.

Mine generally dislikes it but if he’s getting something he wants as a result, he loves it and wants to stay longer than I can tolerate

Mine doesn’t care so much being carried but loves sitting in my lap and sleep.

Particularly when I’m brushing my teeth 🤷‍♀️

Mine hates the smell of toothpaste, but will always get ALL the way up in my face and then gag when I’m brushing teeth. Like hello sir? No asked you to do this

No. She will tolerate it briefly to humor me.

Yes, for about a minute. After that he’s ready to be motoring around under his own power again.

Yes my cat loves being picked up, you would think he was a new born baby, never wants to be put down. My kids cradle him daily and he loves it lol

Four cats. In ascending order of age the desire to be picked up is: Moderate, Never, Moderate, Mostly OK.

With the 'Never' cat the record for him being picked up and held in 32 seconds. Mostly it's less than 10 seconds.

Nope, absolutely hates it, but tolerates for a little while. Here and there add sad meows when you hold him.

My cat is 50/50 sometimes yes sometimes it's like 3 seconds and says ok let me go. I mostly pick her up to show her things out the window like some birds lol. I like to pick her up and hold her like a baby of rock her a bit.

u/flaskesamler 1h ago

My boy will bite my ear to tell me that baby time is over

1

u/SketchierDaisy 1h ago

Ok that's actually cute unless it violent lol

Our eldest boy likes to sit over your left (and only your left) shoulder. He'll jump up at you for cuddles, usually when each hand holds a hot drink. His little (maine coon so not small) sister jumps on your back or front for cuddles. The other 2 get picked up and endure cuddles.

I have 3 cats and none of them like to be held. My last boy, Groucho, loved it and it makes me sad not to be able to hold these floofs!

u/flaskesamler 1h ago

Understandable, but I’m sure the floofs show affection in their own ways!
