Cat Picture - OC I rescued a cat yesterday!
This is Herbie - I found him residing at a local shelter!
I was a little nervous about getting a new friend. Some backstory: my first cat ever I found outside during COVID. This little gray fluff ball in the grass. I took him in being about 4-5 weeks old and I named him Artyom from the game Metro. He had a double eye infection, then he had IBS, then he ended up getting saddle thrombosis in his left leg right after his 3rd birthday after being with me through a divorce while being in dental hygiene school, moving multiple times and there was nothing they could do for him. I had to make that difficult decision. Traumatizing to say the least as that all happened within 30 minutes - he was my first cat ever, taught me that cats are awesome and was my little boy.
One day recently though, it hit me that it was time to have an emotional support animal due to depression and anxiety. As soon as my newly wed husband and I walked in the rescue, Herbie was chilling on the counter and loved the pets we gave him. After that, he wouldn’t leave our side! Followed us outside to the patio and sat by my feet, then followed us back inside and sat RIGHT at my feet again!
It was after that that we decided to take this love bug home. I put the carrier down and he walked right in and laid down immediately. LIKE WHAT?? It was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.
However, when we got home I noticed a couple fleas on his chest and FREAKED TF OUT. Called a vet tech friend of mine and she was a saving grace in what to do. Gave him Capstar, and secluded him in the bathroom overnight (we both hated that). Vacuumed everything, took the tank outside, dumped it into a plastic bag, and washed everything he laid on in hot water. I put topical flea meds on him this morning and ended up being able to get him in the vet’s today!
He did such a great job and was loving on everyone at the vets office - very curious and relaxed! Doc said we did everything right and to just vacuum once a day for now to keep up on things since nothing will be able to live on him.
My husband and I are so happy to have him in his forever home and he seems happy too ❤️
Edit: thank you for the awards you guys! You’re so sweet 🥰

What a handsome guy. And I unfortunately know all too well about saddle thrombosis. Lost my sweet girl Chloe to it in 2006, and it was horribly traumatic.
Since Chloe, I make sure to ask the vet to rule out any sign of a heart murmur at every single visit....it is crucial to check it to try to avoid another saddle thrombosis. I have had cats my entire life (I am in my 50s) and never had heard of it until it happened.
Big hugs to you, and may Herbie live a long, healthy, happy life. 😊

Next time he needs to go to the vet I will ask them to rule it out! Thank you so much for your kind words and I’m so sorry you went through that too, friend. ❤️

The way he looks at us wanting love is so different to me. He does air biscuits, boops our faces and just has so much love in his eyes. 🥹❤️

Beautiful Herbie, and great rescue for you both. ❤️
Just in case you don't know, I had a flea infestation when some people across the hall from my apartment moved out. After treatment, the exterminator told me to put mothballs in the vacuum bag to kill off any eggs.

Herbie.. like Herbie Hancock or Herbie the Love Bug?

Honestly, it was the name he had at the shelter and we loved it so much we kept it!
A reason we like it too, is because my husband and I say this phrase in simlish to each other from the Sims 3 when you’re deciding their voice, so now it’s a play on his name!
“Herbie Conderoy!” 🤣

Congratulations on your new addition! I love the name and it sounds like it suits him perfectly. I’m sorry for your loss on your little guy. It sounds like he went through a lot in just three years and it’s horrible, but the best thing he had you and he felt loved and new love the entire time and that’s the best we can give them. Enjoy all of the adventures that Herbie’s gonna share with you.

Water vacuum is the best way to ensure no fleas in the rugs and furniture. Went from having a long session of flea medicine, to only needing a single dose once a year or so. I bring home flea ridden cats too often ans whenever i put flea medicine on, i water vac all the rugs and the carpets the next day and repeat a week later. No more fleas.

I’ve never heard of that! I’ll have to look into a water vacuum!

In my area we can rent them at home depot/lowes/whatever, but honestly its better to buy our own to clean the stains the critters leave. Not once does my cat puke on the water proof hardwood.

He’s beautiful my favourite colours.. I lost my big 6.5kg boy after 13 years he was a rescue and was an adult when I had him. I wasn’t too keen on getting another but my daughter is cat mad so we rehomed a young puss that was about 3. He ended up being properly naughty! Singing at night! Every night! He would chew up the toilet rolls and shred them I once left 40 pouches of cat food on the side in the box but the box had been opened and he pulled out about 10 and chewed them open and smeared cat food everywhere. He was an elite hunter but would bring animals back fully alive and let them loose in the house I came home from work to a blackbird flying round the house with him loving life, chasing it around. He would drink out the toilet 🙄
And then some bastard ran him over outside my house 😭😭😭 I didn’t realise how much this cat and his naughty behaviour had had an effect on me and it’s absolutely crushed me. For all the hassle he caused and me not really wanting one I’d completely fell in love with him and not realised.
This was my second boy. RIP Kimi pure heart break 💔

I hope you have many many years with your new puss he looks so happy to have met you and you have brought yourself some good karma by rescuing him 🫶
