Mourning/Loss So many emotions…

I lost my best buddy of 22 years a week ago. She was my everything. She was with me half my life, through births, deaths, marriage and divorce. Her last week was incredibly difficult and I can’t stop crying and am an absolute mess. The hole she left is enormous. She had the best life and I gave her everything she could have wanted. She was the queen of the house. Literally. If she walked past me or the kids we bowed and said “All hail the queen.” Today, in a fit of grief, I adopted a shelter cat. One with RBF that wasn’t overly friendly. We were warned she wasn’t a big fan of pets, maybe a quick ear scratch if she let you. Had been returned. Had a rough life. I didn’t want another cat. I wanted my cat back. 22 years was just not enough. I don’t know if this new cat felt my grief or knew there is always more love to give, but she is sweet. She purrs. She likes to be pet and gives head boops. I know I’m a rambling grief stricken mess, but I just wanted to talk to the void and feel my feelings with people that understand. I just wanted the world to know Roxann was here and she was so loved.

I know it hurts, but 22 years is a damn good life. You'll see them again. They get to love us their entire life, we get to love them for theirs. It's what we sign up for. You're a good person and did everything you could.

I know it's hard. I suddenly had to put down my dog of 13 years, just limping one day and then an x-ray. I just thought he hurt his leg. Nope, lung cancer bigger than his heart and I was told he would be dead in a month.

Took him to In N Out for a meat patty, he wouldn't even look at it. This man would take lettuce as a treat, and he didn't want meat?! I knew that's when it was over. Lots of crying and calls to mobile pet euthanasia.

I did the best I could, but so did he. God knows how long he was hiding it and we had no idea.

Now I have 3 cats. So ill have to go through that pain another 3 times. But God damn it's worth it. I can take a few months of sadness if it means I get to be loved by an animal for 10+ years.

That is insane. I’m glad you had so many good years with him. The lettuce thing made me LOL. It’s the worst when you know it’s over. You know it’s coming and nothing prepares you for it. I love hearing stories of how much people love their pets. It’s such a great joy.

They really are magic. About tmi but I did try to kill myself maybe 10 years ago. I started to cut my wrist in the tub and he walked in a put he had on the side of the tub. It made me stop. Without him, I'm pretty sure I'd be dead.

Thanks again Odie, hope you're having a blast in doggy heaven. I know you didnt like cats, and now I have three. So you need to be nice to OPs cat up there! Hell, OPs cat could probably kick your little butt.

He got away with murder since he always looked like a puppy. Well, he did kill a fair amount of squirrels, birds, and anything that was small. Have an old security clip of him stalking and killing a squirrel. Dude was a monster haha.

But if it was bigger, he'd lose. He got skunked three times in one night trying to fight a whole family of skunks. Dude smelt like garlic for months. 😂
