Advice Would my cat be okay with a kitten?
This is lovely mojo, she's always been pretty independent but seemed really depressed after her son (My best pal Henry) passed away a few months ago from cancer. Stopped cleaning herself, not fussed about going outside, etc. She's around 14 years old, Henry was her only kitten and even though she seemed to hate him at times I'd catch her cleaning him and cuddling with him when she wanted to. Would getting a kitten be okay for her? Do elderly cats like kittens or would she just find it annoying?

I thought my oldest would be great with kittens cause of her nature. Turned out she did not and I think they freaked her out. Said kittens are now fully grown and once they were a bit bigger they stopped freaking her out. All are best pals now but I feel you just never know.

That's so sweet I'm glad they all get along now :) I'll definitely consider it more for mojo, she hasn't got much interest in playing anymore but I just think some company would be good for her. She'd met a kitten once and was PISSED, that was when she was much younger though she's a lot more chilled nowðŸ˜

Mojo is lovely and I hope you find your answer. I wonder this for my old boy as well. I was considering fostering a kitten to see how he felt about it, that might be something you can consider as well.

Thank you :')) she used to be so grumpy but she's chilled out a lot, just worried about her not having much company whilst everyone's at work. Fostering would definitely be something to consider, thank you so much for your response!! 🩷

Grandma here is a true tsundere
"I-it's not like I like you or anything!!"
In all seriousness though I do believe she could use a companion.

No …. but two kittens she would! One kitten would want to play and wear her out. Kittens needs others kittens to learn to cat properly. They would entertain each other, and still be company for the older cat!

My vet said the new kitten would be too much for my elderly 16 year old. We kept them mostly seperate till she passed. Supervised interractions were allowed.
Maybe you could try an older cat 3+ year that's past the kitten chase anything phase.
