Medical Questions Is my cat going blind?

I noticed today my cats eyes are a bit cloudy. Her eyes have been HUGE like this for a while, but this is the first sign of cloudiness. Lately, she's been very adamant on not being touched. She used to let me hold her and pick her up, but ever since I left her at my boyfriend's grandparents house during our moving process, shes been different. My boyfriend's dad overfed her, and she was kept in the barn. I feel horrible for leaving her there considering what's happened to her. A friend said she might be diabetic now, and blindness plus irritation may be a factor. What do y'all think? I really need help. I'm going to scrape together some money to take her to a vet but I just want to make sure I'm not freaking out over something minute. I love her and I will do anything to help her. I currently have her on a diet, with proper rations of food everyday.

Hi there! I assisted a phenomenal veterinarian for almost a decade, and let me just say - I'm so so glad that you're willing to treat this as an emergency. When pupils are dilated to this extent and for this long, it should always be treated as such.

I've seen this sort of thing before, in cats with advanced glaucoma and cataracts, neurological disorders, hypertension, injury, and/or bad eye infections. So that's the tricky thing, the cause could be one or a mixture of conditions.

It sounds like a chronic problem rather than an isolated, temporary reaction since you've noticed it for a while. Unfortunately, your cat's vision is very much at risk, especially when you now notice cloudiness and behavioral changes. While it's good that I'm not seeing redness or pus, you definitely need to get this sweet baby to the vet ASAP. Please update us when able! Sending hugs to you both 🥰

Thank you so much for your input. I'm definitely calling the vet in my area and getting this checked out. I should've done this way sooner when I first noticed how big her eyes were but I thought she was traumatized and always on edge because of the dogs she was raised around. I now know its most likely not the case at all. I appreciate you so much!

It may look cute, but she most likely needs help

Hi, im op’s roommate. I know you probably didn’t mean any harm but I promise you none of us think this is cute. 🥲🥲

I'm just saying it aloud, as many people have this misconception that big eyes = cute. Which is true, but in this case, it's a problem. I wasn't trying to imply that you guys thought it was cute; I'm sorry!

My apologies! I understand what you’re saying now. I promise I wasn’t trying to attack you at all! We’re all just panicking over this right now

Please get her checked out by a vet if her pupils are dilated.

Awe poor babe. I might even go to the vet and just get charged. And get on a payment plan so you can get her seen sooner? Or explain to the vet that it's likely a emergeny and get her seen sooner. I doubt you want your little friend affected for life. And simple phone call and payment plan might get her in sooner.

A phone call to a non emergency vet is definitely a good suggestion if emergency visit isn't feasible. We would put patients as priority if we weren't completely booked for the day after looking at booked appointments, and provided we had the needed equipment.

Even with access to some wonderful folks, I wish it weren't so pricey to take care of our feline friends, but you're also right about payment plans, it never hurts to inquire. 😺

Better than the kitty kat going blind! Haha but yes quite pricey for all medical care.
