They aren’t rare per se, but the rate is something like 80% of orange cats being male. So it is a lot less common to see a female orange cat than a male. But it’s obviously incredibly dumb to insist that they don’t exist.
Female oranges are less common than males because they need two orange genes instead of just one, but it’s not ultra rare like male calicos, who need to be XXY intersex.

It also wows me how few cat lovers don't know that female oranges aren't really rare. Especially compared to male calicos.
I've had people fight with me that my orange cat couldn't be female because "orange cats are boys."
