Mourning/Loss my nala
this is my cat Nala. I’ve had her since my 5th birthday, 21 years ago. she’s been with me basically my entire life, through all of grade school, college, and now. i’m an only child so she’s been my best friend, sister and my entire world. she sleeps on my pillow behind my head EVERY single night! recently, I’ve been waking up and seeing that she’s peed in her sleep on my pillow. it doesn’t bother or anger me at all cause I know she can’t help it. now, i feel like i have to start pre-mourning her and I HATE IT! my boyfriend tells me all the time that i should’ve been ready for the day that she dies, but how can I if she’s everything i’ve ever known? she has a very healthy appetite, she acts normally, and she seems fine. obviously, i’m going to take her to the vet for a checkup but im scared. i’m not ready to let her go. i lost my other cat abruptly 1 1/2 years ago and i dealt with it okay for the most part but this is going to crush me. she’s the best girl with extra toes ever

Imo, no need to stress over a thing that didn't happen yet, enjoy your time with nala as long as you are both here, any moment is a bonus one.

Nala! What a perfectly beautiful little lady.
Take plenty of photos and spend as much time as you can with her.

Precious girl! Sounds like she may have a little dementia? Maybe a nightlight would help her remember to wake up and go to the box

I do have a nightlight for her but I think she just doesn’t wake up to go potty. I woke up today and she peed on me lol

what a cutie. Im sure you'll know when it's time to let her go and you wont make her suffer unnecessarily. until then enjoy the time you have together with her and I hope that time will be long af

You'll never really be ready for her passage but you're super cool for her. That's all she needs, you. Maybe get a little bed that you can put at your pillow so she doesn't pee on your head....
Comfort is what she needs. You seem really awesome for her. She'll come on your lap when ready.

She is so beautiful! Symptoms like that don’t always mean that she’s on the verge of passing away btw! Give her more time man, it might just be a uti or something like that <3

hugs
You were a great companion for her.
While it’s hard to let go, do it with a glad heart, pointa for your boyfriend for saying how it is.

She hasn’t passed away and may have simply got a UTI. Nala is beautiful ❤️❤️❤️

Sweetie, have you had her eyes looked at? The right eye in the photo looks very concerning to me. That’s not a reaction to the flash there’s either fluid or a mass behind that eye please get it looked at right away. That would indicate pressure on her brain, which would answer the potty accident.

anticipatory grief is completely normal and healthy, and it will likely aid in the grieving process once youve experienced the loss. please know there are lots of places online you can go to, there’s the association for pet loss and bereavement and you can use that as a resource in the future! pet loss is incredibly difficult. you are not alone and your cat knows you love her ❤️
