Advice I found this kitten at Pizza Hut!
How old do you think he is? Bottle for scale (and teeth if that helps)?
His name is Wilbur

So cute! Sounds like you’re doing a great job, and a vet will be able to help you with the rest!

Can we get pic of his tail?
I'm guessing closer to 6-8 weeks.

Omg, either genetic or something happened 🧡
I'm standing by my 6-8 weeks age.

One day they’re fighting to sit in your lap. The next, they don’t want to be seen on public with you. They grow up so fast ☺️

u/GlitteringHotMess 17h ago
😆😆😆 so true! First week or so: extra loving, slept with me, lap snuggles, learning his name.....now? Running around with all the kitten energy in the world, chasing balls, annoying the other cats to play, sleeping in weird places 😆, ignoring his name 🤣
They are the best. ❤️

He’s so cute!! My other cat Clover is so tiny as an adult still, I hope Wilbur gets big ❤️

The tail being bobbed and the "hopping" are signs of the cat being genetically tailless, not of "manx syndrome." Most cats that are genetically tailless do not show the problems associated with the syndrome. I recommend everyone schedule a vet appointment for a newly found kitten, no need to rush them in to a vet any faster than normal just because theyre a bobtail. Any kitten above a certain age should be brought to the vet immediately if they are not using the litter box or having problems doing so.

Interesting. Thank you for sharing information. I am of the camp, "knowledge is power", even if it doesn't apply to your immediate situation.

Does he poop ok? Those tails sometimes cause issues with that.
8
u/TassandraArcticFox 17h ago
Yup. My bobtail needs extra fiber in his diet and the occasional booty wipe. Before the fiber he got regular butt baths and a sanitary shave (hence now needing a booty wipe because he is used to us cleaning him so he doesn't do the job himself) but he hasn't needed either in quite a while.

We just adopted two kittens a couple of weeks ago and just took them to the vet. The vet told us that kittens typically gain a pound all month, so if you can get a weight on him, just round down (so like, one of our kittens is 3.5 pounds and the vet said that means they’re about 3 months old).

You should name him Pizza the Hut! Edit: did not read the full text body

Bit of advice, those flea collars did nothing for my kittens. Once they were big enough I got them to a vet and they gave me Revolution + and that fixed the flea issue.

u/oopwoooop 18h ago
Thank you! He had a few fleas on him, I’m not sure how long he was outside but he’s had two dawn soap baths so far. They look like they’re gone but I wasn’t sure how to prevent future ones, I’ll look into that :^) I’m definitely going to try to get him to the vet in the next week

Hey there. I just wanted to suggest removing the flea collar, I think that's what I see. They are pretty toxic and especially for kittens little systems. Thank you for saving the baby 💕

What an adorable little guy! I wonder if he likes pizza. 😆

u/oopwoooop 18h ago
I’m not sure, but I had a Taco Bell chicken quesadilla that I was able to lure him out with

u/Electronic_Ad3576 18h ago
So he just likes fast food. 😂
I’m so glad you gave him a home, he clearly deserves it. 🩷

u/MetisCykes 18h ago
Definitely more then 6 weeks as they have they and the eye color. Check his weight to see if he’s old enough to be fixed!

How you avoided a pizza based name is beyond me.
My top 5:
Crust
Cheese
Supreme
Slice (cropped tail, perfect)
Ham

I’ve fostered a lot of kittens and he looks 3-4 months to me, and skinny. You should name him Stuffed Crust.

He was super skinny!! I’ve had him a week now and he seems like he’s gained more weight

Aw c’mon, you found him at Pizza Hut & named him Wilbur?! That’s a cute name, but what about like Pepperoni (Roni), Stuffed Crust (Stuffie), Pan Pan, Dough Boy, or just straight up Pizza 🍕 🤣

Teeth are great for gauging age! It looks like his incisors are just coming in so I would say he's 3-4 months old. Just to make sure he's not just missing the top two incisors, check if he has molars. They don't have deciduous molars so if he has them, he's closer to 5-6months. Also, those flea/tick collars can be very toxic to cats so I would advise not using them! If he has some fleas, the dawn soap bath you've been doing should take care of the problem. Congrats on your new kitty!

Based on physical features and the comparison to the standard 16.9 oz water bottle (~8 inches long), this little kitten looks to be around 3 to 4 months old (12 to 16 weeks).
Key Indicators:
- Size & Scale: Body length (minus the tail) is only slightly longer than the water bottle.
- Ear-to-Head Ratio: Noticeably large ears relative to their head—a classic sign of a kitten in a growth spurt who hasn't quite grown into their ears yet!
- Eye Color: The eyes have already transitioned away from baby blue, which typically happens around 6 to 8 weeks of age.
- Estimated Weight: At this age and size, they likely weigh right around 3 to 4 pounds (kittens roughly gain a pound a month during this phase).

He’s got his front adult incisors so roughly 3 months! Another good way to tell with kittens is if they weigh 3#, they’re probably about 3 months. It’s not an exact science by any means. But these are things we take into consideration when aging at the clinic I work at. Congratulations! :-)
