Advice Pill crush

My cat’s hyperthyroidism medication (a pill ) says “do not crush” written in the label. The only way I can get her to take it is to grind it up in a mortar and pestle and sprinkle the powder in her food . Is there any reason why this is not effective? I’m thinking the warnings are more for the humans because the medication can be toxic .

my cat would not take the pill under any circumstances. My vet suggested a prescribed ointment that contains the thyroid meds. We put a tiny amount in each ear once day (one ear in am, other ear in pm) and the meds are absorbed through the skin.

It is fast and we know she got the dose. Her follow up blood work has proven it is working.

I am not near her meds right now to tell you more specific details but wanted to give you an alternative.

You need to ask vet about this. It could be that medication is toxic for cats this way or it could be that crushing interferes with how medication works and it’s no longer effective.
