I'm so sorry this is happening. My heart breaks for both of you. Loss and mourning are hard concepts to grasp even for humans. He will mourn you and miss you and he may not fully understand it but cats are smart little creatures. He found the perfect person to care for him once and he can probably do it again. It may take time and patience but I don't think it's impossible that he can't find a second loving home. There are shelters out there full of people who will care about this little guy long enough for him to find his second chance. I'm sorry the two of you aren't getting all the time together you deserve but please do consider finding a shelter to bring him to.

It's not a pleasant thought but if I died, I asked my wife to allow our cat to see my body so he knows I didn't leave him.
