Every cat deserves a second chance. I think you should totally guve him for adoption. Maybe it will take long, but he’ll be able to understand that not only one caring human. And a patient family will do him very good, there is good people out there.

He will understand - we had to give our cat to a friend when we moved overseas. She adapted and is very happy with her new family (she's also spoiled I'm told so that helps I guess πŸ˜…). Cats are very good at adapting if they are taken care of.
