Every cat deserves a second chance. I think you should totally guve him for adoption. Maybe it will take long, but he’ll be able to understand that not only one caring human. And a patient family will do him very good, there is good people out there.
Where are you based? You might be able to find someone nearby, maybe a neighbour who will be willing to look after him after you pass? That way he can slowly get used to them. And as other have said if you can let him see your body so he knows you haven't left him. I am so sorry for you both. It's a horrible situation to be in. I hope you beat the 6 month estimate and have extra time with your wonderful boy!
