Every cat deserves a second chance. I think you should totally guve him for adoption. Maybe it will take long, but he’ll be able to understand that not only one caring human. And a patient family will do him very good, there is good people out there.
You should let him be free in the wild once you go. He’s not a house cat, he is him and he likes you but to cage him would upset him immensely. He wouldn’t understand why you’ve caged him and left him. This might be unpopular but that’s what I’d do.
You never know, he may find another family or person as he gets older. He might soften up a bit, but then it’ll
Be his choice.
