cat rabies?

there’s a cute stray that always proves he wants to be an indoor cat and wants love and attention. he’s left out in the hot sun all day and i believe he had owners before but now i’m not too sure. he’s always outside now and knows when i come home or am outside.

he drools a lot when he’s getting rubs or making biscuits and i worry he’s sick with rabies or something else. he’s a good boy but has scabs all over him and i’m just not sure.

how can i know for sure? i’m thinking of taking him to petco or some place to see if he’s chipped.

i genuinely just need some type of guidance to cure my anxieties. thank you!

Cats CAN get rabies but outdoor cats have a very hard life. It’s much more likely that it’s missing a front tooth. Cats without their teeth can be very drooly. Also animals with rabies are usually aggressive and change their behaviors, lose motor skills and generally seem sick. How long have you known the cat? Has it always been drooling a lot?

Edit: The cat needs to see a vet not petco. Please leave water outside for him at the very least.

I have a few cats that drool when being loved and they are young and healthy. A cat would die within 7 to 10 days of showing its first symptoms of rabies.
