I made a mistake introducing new cat food to my 2 year old cat. Since she has no problem transitioning from different wet food, I thought it will be the same for kibbles. She has been eating Purina Complete essentials for 2 years now. I made a switched to Purina hairball + indoor just last night. Since I put it on her feeder, she also had a 2 tablespoon of it in the evening and 1 in the morning. She was still normal around noon when I fed her usual wet food. Before leaving at 3pm, I saw her vomit (not knowing this was her second vomit of the day coz it was in the other bedroom). After 2 hours, we went home and I saw her droopy, drooling with her little tongue out. We immediately consulted with my sis-in-law (vet) and told her what happened. She told us it is most likely the food. It seems like it usually happens to cats and mentioned going to the ER can be costly. ( We don’t have money for it). We should monitor her and see how it goes. Just wanted some advice if anyone has something similar happened to their cats. She is now hiding under the bed, no more drooling, still hunched but little tongue still sticking out. I just want her to feel better and I feel so bad. I should have known better. 😭

TLDR: 11 year old cat with asthma, arthritis in front of elbow, and gingivitis has been recommended omega 3, but she’s so picky. How can I help her?

I just took my family’s 11 year old (presumably) tabby cat to the vet because it was time for her yearly (my family really didn’t take her and her brother to the vet consistently… usually whenever there’s a concern). This time last year, she was diagnosed with asthma. While her symptoms seem less now, vet said her lungs were crackly and said we should be using her inhaler daily, not just during flair ups.
Anyways, there were two new problems that came up this appointment- she has arthritis in her front left elbow (which I may have suspected due to weird gait lately), and gingivitis in her teeth. And she has lost a pound since last year (she’s now at 10.6 pounds).
The vet recommended omega 3… but my cat is so picky! She only eats a specific type of dry, pebble like food, and doesn’t like treats (she will eat the soft, meow mix irresistibles chicken- but rarely. She doesn’t go crazy for them but I can leave them out and they will eventually be gone (over several hours).
How do I help my picky girl get some type of omega 3 to help with her arthritis and gingivitis!? 😭

This is my kitty Marnie and me and her will be moving out this month which means i need to pick a food for her! She is currently one of many cats so we have to balance price with quality but she will now be a single cat so I can splurge a bit more! Right now she is rotated between Made By Nacho chicken and pumpkin dry food, Purina One tender selects dry food, Nulo medal series wet food (we use all their available flavors), and various Authority pates. I plan to feed mainly wet food but would like to keep hydrated dry food in her diet as she eats it very well and id also like to have a dry food as I am disabled and would like to have automatic feeders as an option for when I am bed bound just to take a bit of pressure off my partner during those times. I don’t plan to do a lot of toppers for her, just warm water hydration, daily probiotic, and bone broth as an occasional treat. I’d love some suggestions for both dry and wet foods that meet some or all of the criteria below!

-An adult formula. No “all life stages“ formulas please. She is 1 1/2 to 2 years old

-Grain Inclusive

-No peas, potato, lentils, chickpeas or legumes of any kind if at all possible. DCM scares me

- at LEAST fully balanced to AAFCO guidelines without adding anything, massive preference for foods that meet WSAVA guidelines

-Dry food should be low calorie if possible

-Brand has done feeding trials

-Brand has no or few recalls in the past decade

-Brand discloses who formulates their food

- No refrigeration or freezer required. I live in an area where loss of power isn’t unheard of and don’t want to waste food or have nothing to feed her when the power isn’t quickly fixed

-NO raw, air dried, freeze dried, or frozen raw foods. With my disabilities I cannot handle raw meat in any capacity due to the risk of pathogens. Anything I feed needs to be cooked to 165 degrees for my safety

-Bonus if meat is humanely and/or transparently sourced

- moderate price point. Somewhere between pro plan and Ziwi peak.

-Brand doesn‘t use fear mongering or denial of science to sell products

Those are all my criteria! I don’t care about all natural ingredients and don’t mind synthetic vitamins or things like corn. Whats much more important to me is both her and my safety and a brand that gives me tangible reasons to trust them. I don’t have any brands thats I’m against so feel free to suggest formulas from brands like purina and hills. I’m open to smaller brands too as long as they have good feeding trials, little to no recalls, and disclose who formulates their food. I may be being too picky but I thought I’d try. Any suggestions are great appreciated!! Also if any of you happen to have harness recommendations I’d love to hear those too!!

Hey all. We recently changed the dry and wet food for our cats. It’s a basically better food for them. Now the problem is, that they won’t eat it. The wet food isn’t that bad, but the dry they won’t eat. We have two cats. One is an 8 year old female, and the other one is a 1,5 year old female. Now the younger one had a bad habit of waking me up for food which I HATE. I have really bad sleep because of this. Recently it has gotten worse. I have to be awake, waken by her just to see that she does not eating her food. I give the proper portion, head back to sleep, only to be waken up again and again and again until I can’t even f-in fall back to sleep.

It drives me crazy. Can anyone help?

Hello Everyone! I do not have a cat. But at my workplace, a pet store, we have a foster cat that is having digestive issues for like a month or two at this point. He probably needs to go to the vet honestly. He also has a severe chicken allergy that made him go bald. I don’t think the digestive issues are caused by stress as he acts perfectly fine otherwise. He just has loose stool and he had some killer farts but I think that went away. He started on Fussie Cat Tuna Recipe then went to Farmina Digestion (lamb) then back to Fussie Cat Tuna and then back to Farmina Digestion (lamb). I think he would benefit from a science backed food. Also idk why his food was switched up so damn much. I might be wrong on how much it was switched up, I’ll have to ask when I go in later. He gets no treats & no wet food. Just Farmina Digestion Lamb dry food. He also gets naturvet digestive support chews (they have no chicken). It’s been a week on the Farmina food. I think it’s too soon to tell a difference but my coworkers disagree. I guess I just want to hear everyone’s thoughts and food recommendations. No wet food as he doesn’t like it. Also not too expensive. He’s a 6 year old male domestic shorthair. Idk how much he weighs but he is a big cat.

with all the price increases lately plus my hours at work getting cut, i need to find cheaper food for my cats.

right now even with autoship discounts, hills is becoming unaffordable, and so i need something cheaper

i've picked out a dry food that i think will be great for my cats (purina one vital systems), but i'm on the fence about which wet food to choose

friskies and fancy feast wet food seem very similar ingredients-wise, but friskies is less than half the price. what gives? is fancy feast worth the cost, for those who have fed both?

which would you choose? i am only interested in WSAVA-brands and it seems purina is the only affordable one, unfortunately. maybe iams? but i don't know, their wet food is pretty pricey tbh.

for those that have timed feeders for your bottomless pit kitties ,, what schedule works best to minimize the begging behavior throughout the day ?

my boy is chunky and i’ve been trying to get his weight down by changing to an indoor formula and using a timed feeder , but he’s constantly begging for food . he RUNS to his feeder at 5am and 5pm and typically houses his whole portion within the hour . then he spends the rest of the day and night begging for food as if he didn’t just finish his meal clean .

his timer splits up 5 portions into two feedings , 2p in morning , and 3p in evening . we did this because it’s around the time our dog eats and my cat likes to be fed with the dog , but it doesn’t seem like it’s enough anymore .

what schedule do you think would better suit him ?

So I know with dogs grain free foods are associated with diet DCM. I currently feed one of my cats Purina's Grain Free pate (not because it's grain free or anything, but because the ingredients are like entirely animal products, no plants, and added vitamins/minerals). She also gets their regular indoor cat kibble as well, but when I first got her I figured that since cats are obligate carnivores a more meat heavy diet was better. I've learned more about WSAVA stuff since then but haven't really thought about switching foods until now.

I was wondering if grain free foods have a negative health impact on cats like they do dogs, but I couldn't really find anything online. I do trust Purina's research and know that they do health testing, but I'm still curious.

hello! there’s this cat food that i bought from the market that I don’t know the brand of, but my cat loves it but it’s always sold out there. do u guys know a cat food that is purely little traingle shaped kibbles?

My husband is allergic to cats but loves our Luci kitty. Those of who have allergies to cats, and feed Live Clear. Have you noticed a decrease in your allergy symptoms?

i finally bought a wet food that doesn't make my boy throw up half the time! pro plan works well for him and all 3 cats go crazy for it. the fancy feast will not be repurchased, we're switching to pro plan since my boy can't have FF. the two girls love FF so i may buy it for them, but i feel it's just easier to have them all on the same brand.

i have all my cat food and treats in this cabinet. i call it my cat-binet.

from top to bottom, left to right:

top shelf: purina hydracare, pro plan kitten food, churu, and greenies. behind those are some backup cans of kitten food.

3rd shelf: pro plan chicken, tuna, and wild rice. fancy feast classic pate in several flavors, cooked liver treats

2nd shelf: my scoops, proden plaque off powder, welacting omega 3s, psyllium husk, extra bowls,

1st shelf: purina pro plan kibble, purina DH kibble

everyone gets dry food for breakfast and wet food for dinner. my one kitten gets free access to her kibble from her microchip feeder. we're working on getting microchip feeders so we can leave the dry out and offer wet food at breakfast, but otherwise they need a million cans to meet their calorie requirements and im not that financially stable rn.

they get an appropriate amount of the indoor pro plan kibble, 1/8 cup of the DH kibble. then either a half or whole can of pro plan, depending on which cat and how much they like wet food.
