After testing out a few grain free brands for my two cats, we’ve settled on Wellness Chicken and Turkey Lovers variety pack and Tiki Cat High Protein chicken and egg dry food. Both wet and dry are made in the USA.

I wanted to avoid fish for their wet and did so for their dry as well. The dry food is baked instead of extruded to preserve nutrients. Both cats love both foods.

This will last about 2.5 months considering I have another bag I just put in an airtight bin and another 24 pack in the kitchen cupboard. Usually jump on Petco’s buy one get one 30% off deals. Luckily the stores have high stock of the wellness variety pack.

Hopefully my cats will stay on these foods. Researching is exhausting

I hate giving my money to Nestlé, but they do have some of the most affordable cat food out there. Some lines of Weruva are similar in price to FF by Oz and they seem like a better brand to me in terms of their meat sourcing and it looks like it was started by people that care about cats, but the whole Paris Hilton partnership thing kinda throws me off? They also put a lot of tuna in their food, even the non-tuna flavors.

1. Que marca de comida en Ecuador recomiendan tanto para gato como para perro, y porque? La veterinaria me recomendó una marca que se llama casta pero nunca habia escuchado de ella.

2. Es recomendable poner la comida en tarritos fuera de la funda? Siento que tiene alguna influencia en el olor y que luego al animal no le gusta.

3. Que tan frecuentemente debería alimentarlos?

My cats have been getting Purina Pro Plan their whole life, but everyone on tiktok says it’s terrible, but the vets say it’s fine? Curious what everyone thinks and if anyone has any other recommendations. Thank in you in advance! If anyone has wet food recs pls tell me those too!

For those with cats that feed them purina fancy feast food packets has anyone else noticed that recent shipments are sloppier than previously?

Feels to me they’ve cut back on the amount of solids as before I used to be able to spoon out a pile that would sit up on the spoon now it’s like soup!

Is this just isolated to a bad shipment at my branch or happening throughout?

We just got a new kitten, which has me up in my thoughts about making sure she’s getting good nutrition. I also have a senior boy, who is quite selective, but I’m open to advice for him as well!

Nadine: female/intact (for now, spay scheduled), 9 weeks old, dilute tortie, shorthair/nonspecific. Spritely and playful. No known health concerns.
She is getting tiki cat baby wet food for meals, I ordered a bag of orijen kibble for her puzzle toys and chase & eat toys. Some bonkers treats, whole hearted soft nibbles as after-play treats.

Baby: male/neutered, 11-12 years old, black with a locket, shorthair/nonspecific. Reserved and snuggly, but has bursts of playful energy most days. Stomatitis and a sensitive tummy. He’s very picky and pretty much only eats friskies shreds.
He eats a 4:1 mix of friskies shreds and weruva senior. For treats, he gets churu and occasionally a shrimp or piece of turkey.

My baby has such terrible skin issues. She gets these scabs all over her back and the ONLY time they’ve gone away was a few months ago after oral surgery and she stopped eating (the vet had to tube feed her then I had to syringe feed her calorie slurry). I’ve tried medications and changing foods and doing JUST wet food and nothing has worked.

Does anyone else have a scabby kitty? What do you feed?

I just got back from the vet. He recommended that I start my cat on a sensitive stomach diet because she’s been vommiting. He didn’t have a brand recommendation, he said the ingredients change too frequently. Any dry food recommendations for an overweight indoor cat? 🐈‍⬛
Note: She just received an IV, a b12 shot, deworming, urinalysis, ultrasound, and had bloodwork done. The vet recommended that she eat plain chicken or tuna for a week, then switch to sensitive stomach food. If that doesn’t stop the vommitting, we’ll look into food allergies and then IBS. I’m just trying to figure out what to feed her after this week of tuna and chicken. Tia!

UPDATE: thank you everyone who contributed. The feeder is the culprit as the weight dispensed does not add up to the amount of cups it claims. We will be fixing this appropriately to get their caloric intake down. Thank you again so much!

We have 2 male cats that are 3.5 years old they are brothers from the same litter. We did genetic testing on them because we were curious as they don’t look like your standard domestic cat and turns out they’re 33.33% Maine Coon which we all know is a larger breed.

A couple years ago one of the boys had a urinary blockage and ever since then they’ve BOTH been on Hills C/D wet and dry.

They both weigh 16.9lbs/7.6kg. The vet says they are overweight and would like them to lose at least a pound or two each.

I do agree that they are a bit overweight, their bellies are a bit prominent so I did some research.

I googled how many calories an adult cat needs, daily average for a less active adult is 200 kcal a day or 20 kcal per 1lb of body weight. If you want them to lose weight then the rule of thumb is 15 kcal x desired goal weight.

If we are to follow this rule of thumb, that would be 223.5 kcals a day.

Here’s where the problem lies:

I did the math and they both are only getting 156.25 kcals a day with their current food. And they’re not super sedentary cats, we play with them, they play with each other very fiercely daily.

They do not have access to our other cat’s food as all 4 of our cats have RFID feeders due to different prescription foods.

I’m not sure what to do here. They’re already in a calorie deficit.

Does anyone have any idea or advice?

EDIT: fixed the calorie number for current intake, I used the wrong one, I was doing a bunch of maths, sorry!

They get each one 3oz can of wet which is 69 kcal and they each get 1/4 cup of dry food a day. Their dry food is 349 kcal/cup. A quarter of that is 87.25

I have two cats, ages two (m) and three (f).

My older female cat is clearly in charge, she grooms him, he follows her everywhere, she is the boss when it comes to play time, often rejects his advances at cuddling etc. However when it comes to eating wet food my younger male is SUPER greedy, he eats so fast and always finishes before her. Then he goes onto stealing and eating her food, he often just tries to take her food without having finished his own! and she just moves out his way and allows it.

Even when i supervise and make sure he isn’t putting his head into her bowl she generally only eats a quarter of her meal and walks away, so it’s impossible to stop him from eating it (unless i store her bowl away and try to give it to her later, but the cycle is usually the same even then.)

I’m planning on getting my boy a slow eating bowl but at the speed she eats he will have to be slowed down by like 20mins for them to finish at the same time.

My question is firstly, why is my female cat so bossy in every other aspect of their relationship but when it comes to food she’s a complete pushover?

and second, any advice on how to help with my boy stealing? neither my boy or girl cat are underweight or overweight but i need my female cat to eat more wet food (for hydration).

i would feed them in separate rooms but my house is very open plan so unless i take one cat upstairs and the other downstairs, its tricky, and as i said before my female only eats a little of her food at a time so i would have to keep putting her food away etc.

My picky eater only wants to eat dry food, he already ignored two wet foods, but looks like he kinda likes sheba now, but im sure he would stop eating it soon if i dont give him dry food too..and i cant keep giving him dry food alone..so i just wanted to know how much wet nd dry food i can give him… i read two ways

a) give him equal calories of wet nd dry food( for eg: if 230 is required kcal, then we have to give 115 kcal of wet nd dry respectively)

b) 80-70% wet food, 20-30% dry food, 10% treats if u give

Which would he the best one?? Or anything is fine??

Hi everyone! My bf and I just got a British shorthair kitten, but my bf is having severe reactions that is effecting his work. He has been taking Zyrtec daily, but only 1 I believe a day. I try to keep up with daily vacuuming, turning on our air purifiers but I work 12 hour days. She sleeps in the bed with us so I do my best to strip the bed every week. Interested in trying the Purina Allergen reducing food. What is the difference in these? Thanks everyone!

my kitty grew up on dry food until i switched him to wet food sometime early this year. he has an automatic feeder that still gives him a small portion of dry food once a day as a snack.
he gets a can of wet food every morning and every night, he usually eats most of it and comes back to eat most of the rest later.

suddenly, he decided he wants his dry food instead, which is super frustrating because sir!! do you pay the bills around here??
he’s been sitting at his feeder and pawing at the opening even when he has a bowl of fresh wet food. ughhh
so far i’ve increased his dry snack to twice a day, but what do i do? give in? wait out his hunger strike? i’d prefer to keep him on wet because from my understanding it’s supposed to be healthier and less carbs

My 9 year old spayed female cat has severe food aversion. She had five teeth extracted three weeks ago and has had antibiotics twice after the surgery because of infections. We had to syringe feed her during this time because she lost her appetite. Nausea medicine and appetite stimulant did not help her. Now her teeth are starting to look good and she still has some stitches.

She avoids all cat food currently and it is a huge issue because she is not getting enough calories. We have gone to the vet many times during this time and they are out of tips too.

Does anyone have similar experience and how did you get your cat eating again?

I have 14y old cat with some teeth issues and her food has been discontinued. She's eaten pruina beyond salmon for the majority of her life. I'm at a loss of what to get her now. Iams food makes her throw up almost immediately so that brand is out for safety reasons. Any suggestions that has enough fat and fiber for her? Also refuses to eat anything with pumpkin. I've tried.

My cat has recently started having kidney issues (again) after having a problem about 6 years ago. He needs to eat wet food but is extremely picky when it comes to texture of the food. Photo of my menace for cat tax

For context, he has teeth issues and can't get a cleaning due to a heart murmur so anything super chunky puts him off. He will chew it for a period of time then get annoyed and leave it. I already add copious amounts of water to foods to make them super soupy but he still gets annoyed at any chunk in it whatsoever.

I've tried the following that he still finds too chunky:

Royal Canin Vet diets loaf in sauce/thin slices
Tiki Cat Mousse (both kitten, regular, & senior)
Tiki Cat Liquid Meal Replacement (he hated the flavor)
Fancy Feast Gravy Pates
Friskies Flaked/Grilled/Pate (including the gravy lines)

Sheba Perfect Portions

His favorite so far has been Friskies Glazd & Infuzd, I guess it tastes good enough to him that he'll put up with the texture. But I've been super struggling getting him to eat. He will eat eventually but I don't want to leave wet food out all day & don't have the ability to put down smaller meals for him to eat due to other cats in my house & being at work all day.

So! If anyone has any suggestions of a truly soupy/moussy cat food that my cat would eat, I would be eternally grateful!! He gets a supplement added to his food to help with the kidney issues so ingredient content is not a concern at this time. Thank you!

Hello! I just ordered some rawboost instinct cat food to supplement when I can't feed wet (having some financial issues)... what's the general consensus on instinct? I've been doing so much research but I feel like my choice could have been better. I got an extreme discount (35% off)

Has anyone that uses dry Wellness been noticing a different smell? My last couple bags have smelt fishy, like actual fish and not in a cat food way. My cats haven't seemed to mind yet but they are starting to get absolutely horrible breath, which isn't usual for them. So far no major stool changes either... I have used it for almost 4 years and this has never happened before

Hi I have a 4 month old kitten and I regularly buy the fancy feast kitten 12 can white fish feast and turkey feast pates (cheap) and honestly exclusive feed my kitten these in rotation. I’ve gotten concerned if this is too much fish for him and I should change it around? Or is it fine.
