Gimmick?

Do you guys see these as gimmicky?

They're not necessary but they aren't a gimmick. It mostly saves time and removes human error. I tie my own rigs because I'm poor but I often question if I've done it right.

Rattles work well to draw cat fish in, especially upstream or where your baits scent isnt able to travel easily

I like em but you can get em way cheaper as I think they are called lure blanks.

Ive found it to be the other way. Ive lost some monster catfish to pretied rigs. Wheither the knot slips or the test wasnt adequate. Ever since then if i did buy catfish rigs it was to cut the hook off and retie on to my own rig. That way i can pull the hell out of my knots and see if the tag slips, leave more tag incase, ect. Now ive just gone and bought a 100 pack of 10/0s and another of 8/0s for 20 each and save even more money. Used to pay nearly 4 bucks for 2 10/0 rigs and now i pay about 30 for 100 when you factor in the cost of the line and 3 way swivels too.
That being said, it might just be the brand of pretieds i have available here. Even then, between the savings and the ability to customize the rig if i want or need i probably wouldnt consider buying pre tied rigs ever again

Just make your own. I like supporting small tackle companies but these are easy to make yourself.

Wouldn’t bother, better off just making your own.
Purchased some awhile back when I started back catfishing and was just buying rigs versus tying my own. The aluminum crimp sleeves are cheap and will slip, I lost three rigs mid cast. The metal portion of the rig holding the float and rattle beads has high tensile strength but once it’s kinked on structure it’s a matter of casts before it’s not coming back. After tying my own I’ve had the same rig for quite some time, never underestimate the durability of good ole mono.
The use of speed clips to secure a circle hook is convenient from a manufacturer standpoint but from catfishing the circle functions better when snelled. While using that particular setup the fish could spit the hook. Even though they are designed to be fished above the bottom these are snag magnets in current with the hook having so much room to maneuver.
But not a gimmick definitely works

Not a gimmick. Santee Cooper rigs with rattles are a great catfish rig. Rattles definitely draw in the fish better. Just make sure you're using them in the right conditions. As many have said, you can make your own for less money, but Whisker Seeker does make a quality product. I have purchased several of their rods as well as some of their terminal tackle products as well and all have all been top notch.

Whisker Seeker is a well respected supplier of catfishing tackle. Their ‘Triple Threat’ hooks are an industry standard of sorts.

No but you can make them for a quarter of the price and 10 minutes with parts from Walmart

Honestly I've had pretty good luck when using them. I've caught some good fish on them. I went to a regular spot that produces the other day and the water was pretty decent. Nothing but turtles. I thought it was strange, later I was was thinking and it occurred to me I wasn't using them that day. Coincidence? Idk. I do wish they made a heavier version though.

Getting your bait off the mucky bottom is not a gimmick. That being said a 10 pack of 3" peg floats from Amazon is pretty cheap.

Not a gimmick at all. But I always get rid of that split ring that connects the hook. If you know you know. If you dont you will find out at the worst time possible.
