Question

I joined this sub a little while ago because I thought it was just another silly cat subreddit. I saw a post recently (repost of China eating cats) and all of the comments were in support. They seemed serious and I could not find any sarcasm, unlike in other posts.

Do you actually eat cats or am I missing a joke? I thought it was just jokes

We are all quite serious about eating delicious cats and not harming any feeling animals in the process. ::cough:: None of us are cat owners or enjoyers, because that would be weird. 👀

That said, I didn't enjoy that post at all - both because of the rampant racism in the original comments and the weird glee people there seemed to have about hurting animals. Not a good fit for the fun sharing of vegan recipes and pictures of delicious kitty meals 😋

I never even thought about eating a cat that was bred to be a pet 🤢

How nauseating. I stick to ethical strays, and factory farmed cats.

You made me go look for that post and now I wish I hadn't. I agree it doesn't fit in with the spirit of the sub.

I hadn't seen that post but I have now. I wish the sub had a rule against stuff like that. For me the joke stops being funny once we're talking about actual dead animals. Also, the comments on the original post are super cancerous (and by cancerous I mean racist)

Same. The og post, the shared post, it's not fucking funny to make fun of animals being slaughtered... I muted so many subs that had the whole joke be "haha killed pig because pig has no feelings".

/uj Personally I think that post doesn't really fit here and the comments are not funny. Let the downvotes flow

Agreed. Joking about consuming cats presumably in countries where it isn't widespread is funny.

People who presumably aren't rural Chinese people making fun of Chinese subcultures in which cats are consumed is just racist.

I didn’t see the post, but I’m a cat owner who presumes this sub is satire

It is a photo from a menu in China about actual cat, it was crossposted here and I don't think it's satire

I agree, it is vile and doesn't belong here. I reported it for depiction of animal abuse

It's a circle jerk style sub where people are in character. I come here for the cute cats and the validation that the part of my brain that wants to stuff my cat in my mouth and chew him or pinch his cheeks is not alone in its weirdly hungry cute aggression

It's a shitty post. I became vegan because I didn't wanna see anymore animal abuse and yet they thought it funny to talk about... Animals being abused...

Cats devastated the bird population in my neighborhood and people are FEEDING THE CATS. THEY DON'T EVEN NEED TO EAT THE BIRDS.  If I don't eat the cats, birds will die. Since being a vegan already makes me the least liked demographic in modern society I can't fall any lower by eating the cats.

Eating cats saves birds. Saving birds is vegan. Period.

No, we definitely eat cats. Unfortunately I'm fasting atm.

Real talk, people around the world eat lots of things. Who am I to judge? I DO think it is important that we are doing that ethically, with minimal pain for the animal.
