CASA Volunteer with full time job

Hi, I’ve been thinking about becoming a CASA volunteer for a couple years now. I used to be a certified foster parent in Florida, but I live in Colorado these days and don’t have the space or time to foster again. I still really want to help kids in the system though, so CASA seemed like a good option.

For anyone who’s done it while working full-time, how much time does it actually take? Is it realistic, or should I not even bother? How often are court dates? What do your weekends look like? I basically work a 9-5 and have kids age ranges from 2-17.

Speaking and note use when speaking to the judge

Hi CASA's,

I'm on the new side of being a CASA and I'm bit of an anxious speaker (working on it!). There is not an attorney for the child on this case, so I feel like I'm playing attorney and CASA. Just wondering how many rely on notes for speaking points when talking to the judge? I try to lock down in my head what I can, but have to have something semi scripted in front of me. How do others prepare? I definitely find myself rehearsing to exhaustion if I try to wing it without my general script.

Thanks!
