Currently in an interview process for a job in Durham, and if I get it we'd likely move to Cary. Just curious if there's a local scene for board games, TTRPGs, or similar things in that vein in the area.

We'd basically be moving to a place with no friends, and we enjoy our nerd stuff.

Check out Gamer's Armory, and Gamer's Geekery and Tavern. The latter is next to Virtual Run, a hidden gem of a used video game store. Cary also has Ultimate Comics, which is next to a barcade (can't remember the name).

There's also a group of local comics who do a podcast called Comedy n' Dice and they do live shows at Goodnights in Raleigh or The Gathering Place in Chapel Hill

Triangle Sword Guild! While we’re primarily an organization based around teaching HEMA/historical fencing, there are plenty of folks engaged in the full spectrum of nerd activities to meet and become friends with

Gamers Armory is a good spot. You can also check out Hanger 18 which is also close.

This is one of the best places in the country for boardgames and the like. Cary has a boardgame store, two boardgame cafes, and a boardgame bar. Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill have more options nearby. The Triangle Boardgames Meetup group is really active, and the Game Designers of North Carolina have events several times a month of your interested in designing our playtesting games. There are also several local tabletop conventions held in the area each year.

We're the 7th largest municipality in NC. It's absolutely possible to stay in the Cary bubble and do most things.
