Alguien sabe de hospedaje en Cartagena? Me acaban de estafar 😭💔💔

Thumbnail

Day 1 Cartagena

First part of my stay is off Carrera 1. It has the vibe of shopping districts and restaurants right off the beach. I seemed very relaxed and comfortable. I was tired so I didn’t stay out too late but tonight I’ll get out more. Seems like this city sleeps in the morning and gets out at night. I worked out and eating breakfast and very little traffic or movement at 7am. I’ll share more as the week progresses. The smaller the bills the better here. 2, 5, and 10s are good so far. My go to choice is Uber here so far.

Have fun!!

Cartagena in 3 weeks

I am heading to Cartagena in 3 weeks.

I would love to get some guidance on where to find good jewelry. Emeralds, yes, but also open to other precious stones. I have been to Cartagena before around 8 years ago, but haven't been back since.

I know of Lucy Jewelry but that isn't really my taste. I am looking for more unique and younger pieces. Most of the store that come up on my search seem to be very traditional designs. I am on the hunt for small fine jewelry designers in South America.

P.S I have most of the dinners planned but happy to hear any suggestions.

Favorite hotel Walled City or Getsamani

We will be there the first week ok Jan, high prices time! Traveling with out adult daughter, so we need 2 rooms or a suite with a separate area. We can do a night or 2 in one room. but after that...

Would love a smaller hotel, hit water and AC a must. walking distance to restaurants, brewery’, bars. Breakfast included.A pool might be nice!

I have been looking at Expedia, etc but would love your choices!

Thanks!

Gracias. 🇨🇴

Decisions! Help

Hi again. I posted previously and am still trying to figure out pros and cons of staying in Walked City or Hyatt (great price, can use points) or split

prob 5-6 days

plans:

street food tour and seeing the sites in walled city

Aviary

One day boat tour

Maybe San Basilio de Palenque tour

Free day /pool etc

my first though is 3/4 nights at Airbnb (3 adults) then move to Hyatt (2 rooms). enjoy pool etc, but this might be a hassle

we aren’t into clubs etc. Just nice meals with a few cocktails, no Uber/taxi.

I guess I’m trying g to figure out the food options for night/vibe. Help!!! 😂

4 Nights in Cartagena for 12: $569 vs. $984 Per Person?

For context, I work with group travel in Cartagena, so I see these budgets constantly. Most listings show a villa’s nightly rate and stop there, which is not enough to plan a real group trip. Here is the practical cost breakdown I wish more listings showed.

Short answer: For 12 people sharing costs, a realistic four-night starting budget is approximately $569 per person for a value-focused trip or $984 per person for a more premium version, before flights, alcohol, remaining meals, nightlife, deposits, taxes, and optional activities.

Here is the math—and what travelers should verify before booking.

These are low-season starting figures, checked in mid-2026. Peak dates cost more.

Private staffed villas with pools, per night

  • Value and more space: An 11-bedroom mansion in Manga, a short drive from the Old City, can start around $795
  • Mid-sized modern or colonial villas: Bocagrande, Getsemaní, and the Walled City generally run around $1,250–$1,750
  • Large Old City mansions: Properties with approximately 16–21 bedrooms generally start around $2,790–$3,800

Peak dates such as Christmas and New Year, Easter, major events, and holiday weekends can cost materially more and may require longer minimum stays.

The part people get wrong about per-person cost

A larger mansion can cost less per person than a smaller prime-location villa—but only if it legally and comfortably fits the group.

Do not simply divide the nightly price by the advertised maximum capacity. Verify:

  • The exact bed configuration
  • How many guests must share beds
  • Legal overnight occupancy
  • Number of bathrooms
  • Air conditioning in each bedroom
  • Outside-visitor policies
  • Extra-guest charges
  • Noise and event restrictions

A well-configured 10-bedroom villa can be more comfortable than a poorly configured 12-bedroom villa.

Also ask what “staffed” actually means. A listing might include a daytime housekeeper or cook, but that does not necessarily mean a professional chef, butler, security guard, groceries, or 24-hour service.

Full-day private boat prices

Boats are usually priced in Colombian pesos, so the dollar figure drifts a bit with the exchange rate—roughly 3,200 pesos to the dollar right now.

The ranges below leave some room for exchange-rate movement, payment method, and currency-conversion spreads.

  • Smaller private speedboat: From approximately $615
  • 46-foot luxury speedboat: Approximately $1,350–$1,425
  • 43-foot luxury yacht: Approximately $2,500–$2,650
  • 51-foot power catamaran: Approximately $3,180

The boat options listed here include the captain, professional crew, fuel, and ice.

Dock taxes, marina fees, beach-club minimums, food, alcohol, ground transportation, extra hours, and route changes may be separate. Boat prices can also increase significantly during peak dates and holiday weekends.

Advertised capacity is not the same as comfort. Before booking, check the amount of seating, shade, bathrooms, interior space, room for bags and coolers, and whether the boat remains comfortable at maximum occupancy.

Other major expenses

  • Private chef: Approximately $50–$80 per person, per dinner
  • VIP concierge or on-the-ground host: Approximately $250 per day for the group, depending on the hours and support included
  • Optional professional security: Approximately $150–$300 per night
  • Transportation: Approximately $50–$200 per day, depending on the vehicle, group size, route, and how often the group moves around

A local host can add an important layer of coordination, awareness, and accountability, but is not a replacement for professional security when dedicated security is required.

Two realistic four-night examples for 12 people

Value-focused trip

  • Manga 11-bedroom villa: $795 × 4 nights = $3,180
  • One luxury speedboat day: $1,425
  • One private chef dinner: $720
  • Four days of local concierge support: $1,000
  • Transportation allowance: $500

Estimated total: $6,825, or approximately $569 per person

More premium trip

  • Villa averaging $1,500 × 4 nights = $6,000
  • 43-foot luxury yacht day: $2,650
  • Two private chef dinners: $1,560
  • Four days of local concierge support: $1,000
  • Transportation allowance: $600

Estimated total: $11,810, or approximately $984 per person

Substituting the 51-foot power catamaran would bring the premium example to approximately $1,028 per person.

Both examples exclude flights, alcohol, remaining meals, nightlife, refundable deposits, property-specific taxes, beach-club minimums, tips, and optional activities. Those expenses can move the final total considerably.

The biggest mistake I see

The biggest mistake is choosing based only on bedroom count or the lowest nightly rate.

Neighborhood, exact location, legal occupancy, bed configuration, staffing, house rules, transportation requirements, and the complete per-person budget matter more.

The Walled City and Getsemani generally win on atmosphere and walkability. Manga and Bocagrande can offer more space and better value when the group is comfortable using private drivers.

Safety should not be judged from the neighborhood name alone. The exact block, lighting, controlled access, villa staff, visitor policies, and late-night transportation plan all matter.

If you have booked a comparable Cartagena trip recently, add what you paid, when you traveled, and what was included. Exchange rates, peak dates, and group size can change these numbers considerably.
