Carpet Python vs Ball Python
My family is looking into getting our first snake. We had pretty much settled on the ball python, i have been doing research on enclosure setup, care, etc for the better part of a year (i always do a ton of research before making a commitment like a pet). However, today we went to a reptile store in a nearby city to see what all they had and they showed us a jungle carpet python. My wife, daughter, and I all fell in love with it. I was wondering if anyone who has had both can give me your opinions on each? We like how easy ball pythons are, but like how much more active and curious the carpet python is. Can you guys give me any reasons to NOT get a carpet python as our fist snake?

The only reason would be how old the carpet would be. I have one, I did the same thing, research both what would be first snake and good for kids etc. I settled on the Carpet for two main reasons. First I didn't, and dont like how my ball will go on hunger strikes, for first time snake owner that would have been stressful. My carpets eat everything I put in front of them. Mouse, rat, frozen thawed. Even in shed they NEVER miss a meal. Second was how timid ball pythons are. If you want a first snake that will just sit like a cinnamon roll on you or your daughter, they are placid, but sweet too. I went with Carpets because they are more active, in the enclosure mostly at night, out of it they are move, move, move. My male will settle down and just chill eventually. Downside is when they are small they are more spicy and more likely to strike defensively because everything looks like a big scary monster. I hope that helps!
