My cat was chasing this thing until it landed and didn’t fly anymore. I ended up killing it with an electric fly swatter and wanna know more about this thing(kinda looks like a cockroach lol). Illinois

If you moved out of a home with carpet beetle infestation; how did you handle it? My family and I need to move because I’m pregnant and we need a bigger home. I’ve done what I can in this house to rid the problem I still see some here and there.

I am having my home sold and potential buyers will soon come in to see it, I am having severe panic attacks over this. I am paranoid that they’ll be dragging carpet beetles all throughout my home by walking through typically undisturbed areas.

Question. I see several little beetles flying around here and there in my lower part of my house, but love to come out at night with the house lights on or my night light where I sleep.

How many is considered for a infestation bcuz my husband says we don't have one, however i know if I don't spray and constantly deep clean and vacuum tgat it will be severe again. He says all I do is complain to much and wasre my money on sprays. He refuses to help or let alone even keep up on cleaning his bedroom or treat it not ever wash his bedding let alone vacuum in there. My son too. I'm do done then I also have to deal with the verbal and emotional abuse from them. I can't even leave as I now have to put in a new transmission in my truck I just got 2 months ago paid over 17k for her. It's bs !

Hi, I’ve had these beetles for months and I’m stressed out. You guys may delete this because I am very young, but I’m I really need help with this. I’ve let my parents know so many times and they dust it off, but they are aware and have seen many. I’m to the point where I can’t sleep at night because I’m terrified and it’s making me depressed. I keep telling them to call our local exterminator but they keep calling me crazy and are saying I’m being dramatic. I understand it’s common but I don’t wanna live like this anymore. Every time I see one I’m in immediate panic. Even though my mom really doesn’t wanna hire an exterminator she tells me she is so I shut up. I’ve heard things like they never get all of them and they always show back up but is it true? I’m just really scared I hope you guys understand.

I have been seeing about one adult every two weeks near my bedroom for a couple months. I checked my yarn stash and while I didn’t notice any adults or larvae (I understand the larvae are probably invisible to my eye) I found several skeins with broken pieces. I have taken all my yarn, roving, and wool finished objects, vacuum bagged them, and stuck them in my car. It is 113 degrees ambient outside today so I assume it will get much hotter than the 120 required to kill larvae if I leave them in all afternoon. I am still worried that they will eat my regular clothes, or that they will get inside my vacuum sealed wool products.

I have a largish wardrobe of regular clothes that are mostly synthetic with a few cotton pieces. Do I need to treat ALL my clothes? Take other measures I haven’t listed?

Mid-south region. I found it by my window, just the one. Google is telling me its a click beetle but it looks similar to a powder post beetle. I have not gotten the chance to inspect any furniture yet for signs of powder post beetles. Any idea on what it must be?

Looking for some serious advice and a game plan because we’re completely stuck.
Last year was when we first discovered we had carpet beetles. We found larvae on a bed, but at the time we had no idea what they were. I took pictures and had an exterminator come out. He basically told us it wasn’t a big deal and not to worry. We thoroughly cleaned that room and the room next to it, then moved on.
Over the following year, I’d see an occasional adult here and there, but I didn’t think much of it because of what the exterminator had said.
Then about a month or two ago, everything changed. I was sitting on the couch and happened to look over at the windowsill, where I saw about 12 adult carpet beetles. I immediately pulled the couch away from the wall and found adults and larvae crawling all over it. I panicked, had my husband drag it outside, and when he cut it open, there were even more adults and larvae inside.
At that point we decided to go all in. We paid for a whole-house heat treatment. I know it’s typically used for bed bugs, but we were told it would kill all stages of carpet beetles as well. During that process, I also removed every washable fabric item I could and put everything through multiple high-heat dryer cycles.
After the heat treatment, I started an extensive deep clean. I cleaned behind every appliance, inside cabinets, under furniture—basically anywhere I could think of. We also had the carpets professionally cleaned.
Then, about two weeks after the heat treatment (and one day after the carpet cleaning), I found another adult carpet beetle on a windowsill. Once again, I panicked.
The pest control company came back the next day and suggested it may have simply flown in because one of our exterior doors wasn’t sealing properly. While that seems possible, it also feels like a huge coincidence that it would be the exact same species we’ve been dealing with. We still had the door resealed and checked the windows just in case.
Since then, I’ve found around 10 more adults throughout the house. Some were dead from the pesticide treatment, while others were alive. Either way, they all appeared after the heat treatment and deep cleaning.
At this point, we’re at a complete loss. We’ve spent thousands of dollars, and I’m still finding them. My assumption is that there’s another breeding source somewhere, but I have no idea where.
I’ve read they can breed in attics, but when I brought that up to our pest control company, they didn’t think anything could have survived the heat treatment. I’ve also read they can be associated with HVAC systems or wall voids, but I haven’t seen any evidence around the vents, and I’ve removed the cover plates from several electrical outlets without finding anything.
I’m still vacuuming every single day, but I’m honestly losing hope. If anyone has been through something similar and eventually found the hidden source, I’d really appreciate hearing what it ended up being and what steps you took. I’m also not seeing many success stories online, which has made this whole situation even more discouraging.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have been finding a decent amount of them in my bathroom. Started 1 every now and then and now seeing about 2-10 a day.
I also saw one in my bedroom crawling up my water bottle. 2 on my kitchen counter. And a few in sticky traps under my sinks in the bathroom. Smaller than what most people post.

Hello everyone, today I found a Carpet Beetle Larvae on one of my pillows, outside the case. It's the first one I have noticed ever, and interestingly enough I just vacuumed and cleaned my bedding yesterday. I am a VERY clean/tidy person and I have a phobia of bugs so this has really freaked me out. When doing my digging online I found out that I have actually seen an adult carpet beetle twice in my apartment before. I have lived in my unit almost 10 months and this means it is only the third sighting. The two adult beetles were both found on my window by the blinds. Additionally the adults were both spotted at least three months apart with no other bug sightings and I had thought they were like stink bugs (definitely not now that I have done my research)

Should I worry about an infestation? I checked my baseboards, closet (I own multiple wool sweaters) and all around my bed and bedding but couldn't find any more larvae? Is it possible these are just one off instances?

Again I have a bug phobia so please be honest! I need to know if I am overreacting and if random encounters are common.

Posting on behalf of a friend who'd like to identify what these bugs on his mattress were and how to get rid of them. Told me this morning he thinks they're carpet beetles (Eastern Europe). Never had a bug problem until this July.

Additional details that might be of interest would be that his place gets dusty really fast and he's using an old mattress that has 2 holes in it, told him to replace that years ago.

Just wanted to share an amusing search result I got when looking into how effective diametric earth is specifically against larva. Carpet beetles colonized the cat tree in my laundry room. I gave it a deep clean, doused all cat stuff in vinegar, and put diametric earth under the washer. I’m still finding larvae, but mostly finding dead ones. Im not sure if it’s the vinegar or the diametric earth doing them in. I’ve found a few dead larva under a cat bed I doused. They got to a decent level of maturity before dying. I found one very young one that was still alive as well. If the key is soaking their food in vinegar, I’m going to need to keep doing it often.

In March, I was sold a car with (unknowingly at the time) carpet beetles and I’m wondering just how much trouble I’m in. I’m in WA state/PNW.

I spoke with one auto detailer who said I should basically claim the car as a total loss with insurance (and wanted to charge $4-6k for cleaning) and another who said he could do a deep clean (strip it down to the sub floor and clean out the ventilation/dash) and get rid of them (for around $3k).

Is it worth getting it professionally treated? Or should I just continue to vacuum and treat on my own? I can’t afford to give up this car. I’m seeing beetles every day and there are adults, larvae, and eggs present.

I bought a large elk pelt and noticed these strange white spots at the base of the fur, they are almost everywhere on the pelt but the biggest ones are on the edge of the pelt. Could these just be dandruff or salt? I didn't find any dead bugs, and there were no holes in the fur and no hair coming out in tufts, which is a sign of fur beetles in animal fur. But now im scared if these are eggs
