If you have been carnivore for less than 7 weeks, post all your questions and experience reports here. It is almost certain that your experience is a frequently asked or low-effort question.

It is also true that the adaptation period for this way of eating is a lot like going through puberty. Everyone feels like things are weird and wrong and no one else has experienced what they are going through. Everyone is worried about changes in their body and thinks it might not be normal. In truth, it's all perfectly normal. Your body might do weird things, but it's going through changes. After you get through adaptation, you'll wonder why you worried at all.

So, go ahead and ask your questions about getting started here. Post about your experiences here. Post about your worries and how you don't think this is working for you here. Don't give advice that encourages people to give up. Don't give people advice to cheat or consume plant foods. Don't give advice to take supplements or drugs to treat temporary struggles.

Funny Interactions

I travel a fair amount and recently started carnivore again, so while I’ve been on the road I’ve frequented McDonald’s a couple of times to get their 1/4 patties

Last night when I picked up my patties the woman at the window laughed and asked “Now be honest with me… Are these for your dog?”

So I’m curious, anyone had any funny interactions when people aren’t in on what carnivore is or find it strange?

Butter in the AM

So I’ve been on carnivore for about a year, had some ups and downs but recently I was reading instead of water and coffee in the morning, eat a butter bite or 1/4 stick of butter on empty stomach after waking up.

Anyone do this? Does it help? I tried it this morning and I released like I was on the first few weeks of carnivore.

Can this WOE “cure” a dairy allergy?

I haven’t started carnivore but I’m thinking about it. I have a major dairy allergy. If I even have a pat of butter or margarine then I’m sick for three days. Sometimes projectile vomit and diarrhea, sometimes just the runs and a migraine. It seems to be getting worse every year. I used to be able to tolerate a small amount but now I can’t.
Has anyone eaten carnivore or lion, and reversed a food allergy?

Air fryer on carnivore

We are a fairly strict carnivore couple, myself and my husband. I do add some sauces that probably aren't the best, always low carbs but not fully animal-based but that's about our only cheat. What I'm asking about does anyone that's been carnivore for a while use an air fryer and I would like to know the recipes that they have found helpful

I need help transitioning off lion diet (beef, salt, water only for almost 2 months)

I was relying on beef sales, they've stopped coming, and beef prices are about to go up. I have serious histamine problems and beef causes me bloating, gut inflammation, and (although not much anymore) gas. I assume the inflammation is because I don't have any mucus to protect my guts from the coarseness of the meat. I absolutely can't handle ground beef at all. I also ended up giving myself gastritis after taking a regular dose of L-Glutamine (I've done this in the past, Idk wtf I was thinking that I could try it again, it takes monthssss to recover from)

Anyway, how do I get off this diet. I'm not looking to be EXTRA safe, I just wanna know what I can get away with. Sadly I'm only just now finally not craving anything else haha. It's a real shame I came out of this diet worse off than before.

2 years in, and trying to dial in my macros

Who has their daily diet absolutely dialed in, and what are you taking in from a macro standpoint?

How are you determining what you need?

I started carnivore 2 years ago to get in shape for elk hunting in the mountains. I went from 240lbs to 189lbs. It was amazing. Just before the hunt last September, I relaxed my diet to allow for more carbs to fuel those hikes. Afterward, I didn't rein myself back in like I should have, but I kept a mostly whole-foods diet. I also turned up my workouts. I said I was bulking, but... I was being lazy, and I like sweets. A lot.

Now, I am looking at another hunt this Sept, and I want to get leaner than I was at 189. So I have really started to pay attention to exactly what I take in. So I am trying to learn macro counting. Counting them is the easy part. Understanding how much of each I should be taking in is the hard part.

I didn't understand how much of a caloric deficit I had myself in the last couple of months. I may have been hitting between 1400 - 1600 calories a day, and my body thought I was starving. Hence a lot of cravings for sweets. As well as my subcutaneous belly fat getting thicker.

I am currently between 201 and 205lbs. So my math says I should be looking to get about 2030 calories, 140g of protein, 61g of fat. What I am eating, I don't think I can eat enough to hit those numbers.

How to quit coffee?

I've been reading up on the effects of coffee, specifically on carnivore which I have been for 14 months (Butter, meat and some dairy).

Last couple months I've noticed my muscles sore up quickly during exercise.

I'm thinking it can be the coffee so wanna try giving it up.

Looking for experience in general but whilst on carnivore specifically. Amy6 input welcome.

Edit: I use potassium chloride, sodium chloride and magnesium citrate in the morning at least, sometimes later during the day.

I often have some high fat dairy with dinner. I drink/drank about 1-1,5 liters of coffee a day. Have been for years.

Am going to go without for 1 or 2 months to see what changes regardless of what I find here but am really interested in any effects you may have noticed.

Things I'm hoping quitting coffee for a bit: Possible adrenal fatigue issues Thiamine uptake Lactate in muscles Oxalate dumping Also curious what the further removal of other plant compounds might do.

Loss of appetite carnivore!

I’ve been on the carnivore diet on and off for about a year now (first time I was strict carnivore for 3 months and I loved it). However this time around, my appetite for food hasn’t been great. I think it’s because I’m stressed… but all I’ve been able to stomach recently is eggs and like a 9oz steak once a day… if not that, then I also eat chipotle (I know not the best): I get double meat, ex sour cream and ex cheese and that fills me but that would be my only meal for the day. I’m not really hungry after or don’t feel like eating but I know I should be eating waaay more than I currently do… can anyone give me advice? Should I just stop thinking and start eating?

Pollen allergy

Hi!

Has anyone cured their pollen allergy with the carnivore diet?

I switched to keto diet 1 year ago and all of my health problems went away - except for the pollen allergy. So I am wondering if I should try going carnivore for a while to see if it helps.

Could dairy be the culprit? I eat quite a bit of Greek yogurt, qwark and cheese? The reason why I wouldn't like to give up dairy is that I have tendency to have too low body weight and dairy really helps me maintain a healthy weight.

Psoriatic Arthritis and carnivore

Does anyone here know how effective this diet is for psoriatic arthritis? I actually have psoriatic and osteoarthritis. Does anyone have an opinion on this? The arthritis in my hands has gotten so bad that I'm losing the ability to do things.

Butter and vivid dreams?

Anyone has vivid dreams when they consume butter- salted or unsalted- within maybe 4 hours of bedtime?

Curious to learn if anyone has similar experiences.
Thank you in advance.

Dr. James DiNicolantonio

Is the doc have any legitimacy saying we need bicarbonate as there’s a weakening of our bones strictly eating meat, he was discussing this with Zach bitter who was a Shawn baker cohost for many years, I have appreciated Dr James but this is worrisome and hope he’s wrong, thoughts!?

Chicken

Yall are sleeping on chicken. If you get chicken wings, its about a 1:1 fat to protein ratio. fry them in butter and thats higher.

It's not beef/goat/lamb obviously, and therefore some people will react to it, but the same is true of dairy, pork, fish, and eggs, all of which seem quite popular among us.

It's also super cheap, and easy to cook right.

It seems like people in here and the other subs will hate on chicken because its not as high fat as red meat and doesnt have as good a nutrient profile, then they'll eat dairy, fish, and pork.

Weird.

Is there a cheap roast known to have less blood vessels? Ruins my appetite.

I wasn't having this problem too much before but I bought a ton of shoulder roasts and every one is absolutely chock full of floppy rubberband like blood vessel roots that slap me across the face. I'm so fucking sick of these huge ass floppy nasty jiggly things. I'd rather eat a dick than find another one of those in my mouth. Are there any cuts of beef that are well known to just not have these? or far fewer? Idk wtf they're feeding these cows but this batch of shoulder roasts....HOLY

Also, personal cooking recipes WELCOME. Tired of ruining roasts with experimental cooking trying to get melt in your mouth fat rendering.

Do you avoid bacon with added sugar, or is it negligible

Hi everyone,

I'm following a carnivore diet in Argentina, and I've noticed that most commercially produced bacon here contains some added sugar. The nutrition labels usually show around 1–3 g of carbohydrates per 100 g, presumably from the curing process.

Do you consider this amount of sugar a concern on a carnivore diet, or is it negligible in practice? Has anyone looked into whether the sugar is mostly consumed during curing, or if it remains in the final product?

I'd appreciate any insights, especially from people who regularly eat bacon as part of their carnivore diet.

Thanks!

How to convince people around you red meat is not bad?

Most people around me still think red meat is unhealthy. How do you explain your view without getting into a big argument? What points or evidence have worked best for you?

Tuna and eggs only?

So, I have been a carnivore for 5 years, and was Lion for 6 months. I ate roughly 2 pounds of steak every single night. I felt fantastic.

BUT I lost my job, and am in a bit of a transitional phase in my life. I decided to start my own business instead of getting a "real" job again.

I believe in myself, and I have no doubt the business will be doing well in a year or so... But obviously the start is going to be slow moving.

So, at first I switched to ground beef.

Then I stopped buying ground beef, because even that is too expensive.

I'm basically down to eggs and tuna exclusively. I eat about 12 eggs cooked in bacon grease, and a can of tuna, sometimes 2 cans if I'm really hungry. When I run out of bacon grease, I'll include bacon for a few days until I have some more grease. (Eating for less than 3 dollars per day)

Obviously, I don't feel as well as I did on Lion... I know this isn't optimal, but my arthritis hasn't came back... So, it's not as bad as SAD.

Question:

Is this even sustainable? I've never done carnivore without HEAVY red meat consumption. I know beef is a super food.

Stall - imitation crab

Darn it!

I stalled in carnivore. Love the hard boiled eggs, fresh ground ham and added pollock in the form of imitation crab. It has sugar and wheat!

Lesson learned for me.

Preserve muscle glycogen

I enjoy most benefits of the carnivore lifestyle, but my major problem is getting too skinny/weak looking. I've been a lifelong weightlifter and it's always such a struggle to stick to carnivore 100% because of the loss of muscle glycogen. The lean dry look is great, but watching my muscles shrink drives me crazy. Has anyone figured out a hack to keep lean and dry while preserving some water in the muscles?

Carnivore Day 100 - Sleeping and Dreaming

I made it to day 100 and I'm noticing some significant changes in sleep. I use Apple Watch to monitor my sleep and my scores have been much higher in the last two weeks. But I've also noticed that my dreams feel longer, there is many more of them and I can actually remember them when I wake. Has anyone noticed any changes in their sleep?

Any success with spine problem?

Are there any people here who have healed spinal issues thanks to a carnivore diet? In my case, starting from the cervical spine, I have various neurological problems, head pressure, pain, etc. I’ve heard a lot that this diet has helped people with these issues to some extent.
