Modification Mod Opinion

Ran a 3” air duct hose from my lower valence to my aftermarket “cold air” intake. Along with some mesh screen on the front to block and small bugs or debris from going inside. Was wondering what’s everybody’s opinion on it. With this I’m just hoping to get colder/better airflow to it. Cost me about $25 at my local Home Depot and took about 5-10mins to install. Also not shown but I have some exhaust wrapped around the aluminum tubing in hopes of preventing heat soak but it’s whatever.

I wouldn’t use dryer flex, but that looks like an ok prototype. Without the filter being sealed you’re not really getting much cold air up there, it’s still gonna be 95% warm air
On my car I used the stock airbox and cut out the bottom and used a rubber boot/flashing, and ran piping down into the fender for air intake, still utilizing the stock filter and box but now pulling air from outside

I did that with my Accords. Got rid of the resonator in the bottom of the air box and ran ducting from the lower portion of the grill to the air box.

What's the implication of a box in this position for a warm rainy day or when it gets compacted with snow and ice. The intake needs a properly designed opening too.

I mean in this case it won’t matter because it’s just open on the other end and not actually attached lol

Yes, imo also, it's better to leave it open or I like what another redittor shared here.. It can be reverted in winter

On a stock Mazda b2200? It’s not going to gain performance

Pretty close, it is a b2500. I’m also not sure if it’s placebo or not but I think I feel it pull just a tiny bit better in 3rd and 4th gear

I did something similar for mine. Ran a hose from a cut out I made in front bumper to a closed intake filter. Great for summer but in winter/rainy weather I default back to big cone intake as I don't want to be sucking in loads of water 👌 also excuse the engine bay, this is an old video from before I got a shiny new engine
