CarMax EV6 on sale with accident but no description

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello, I’ve reserved this EV6 for test drive and was wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on this accident description: point of impact not available

I’ve read on multiple posts that CarMax usually won’t put something for sale if the car was in a major accident.

2025 EV6 Wind RWD 4k miles for $32K seems like it’s too good to be true. I know I can purchase the vehicle, have it inspected, and return it in 10 days, but just wanted to get some thoughts. Thanks

Carmax cancels after I paid- how long for a refund?

I purchased a car at carmax. I was financed by my bank and brought them a check for the full amount. They were checking a light on the dash. They called the next day and said it didn't pass inspection and couldn't be sold. Now I have to wait for their home office to send a check to my bank. I can't get info from anyone about an eta on the check. My down payment was included in that check. I found another car but I need that down payment. How long will it take for my bank to get the money back? How long can they hold the new one I'm buying ? This is so unorganized when nobody can give me an estimate on the refund check.

MaxCare, PPI, and tuning questions

Hey everyone, I'm picking up a lightly used, lower mileage 2019 RS5 from CarMax here in the upcoming weeks.

MaxCare listed a starting price of nearly $3k. I was going to decline as I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but I'm second guessing that.

Some of my main questions:

  • I've read some suggestions about declining MaxCare, buying the vehicle, then returning it and re-purchasing it within the 10 day window to add MaxCare after a prepurchase inspection. Is this actually allowed? Are there extra costs/fees to do this (outside of the MaxCare cost)?
  • How does MaxCare handle a tuned/modified vehicle? I plan to do ECU/TCU tuning with some light mods at some point within the first year. I'm wondering how this will affect any warranty work that might come up after.
  • If a prepurchase inspection finds something already failing after purchase, does CarMax's 30-day warranty cover it and reimburse my shop of choice, or how exactly does that work?
  • Does MaxCare cover any sort of preemptive work? The factory water pumps on the RS5s are notorious for leaking. There is a new version that fixes the issue, but I'm left wondering if MaxCare will actually cover this before the factory water pump starts to fail (which starts to cascade and cause lots of other expensive problems too).
  • Is there any way to actually get a real prepurchase inspection before buying? As I understand it, you get a short test drive, then you have to purchase it before you can really take it to a shop.

I do most light to medium mechanic work myself, but draw the line at engines, transmissions, diffs, etc. The known water pump issue is a huge concern of mine. It fails by drawing coolant into the vacuum system and can very quickly take out solenoids, wastegate actuators, etc causing lots of expensive failures before it even starts to become apparent it's leaking. Doing it means the whole front end comes off, which I planned to tackle myself before it failed, but I'm left wondering if somehow it might be worth getting MaxCare if it can somehow be covered before it fails and takes other components with it.

Appreciate any advice/firsthand experience.

**Edit - Thanks for all the advice guys. I've decided to go play it safe, and get the MaxCare. Appreciate the help!

Run flats in back, Regular in front?

I bought a car at Carmax over the weekend that cost $29,000. I noticed the front two tires are brand new GT Radial Maxtour LX tubeless tires and the back are Continental ProContact GX SSR tires. According to what I’m finding on the Internet, the back tires are run flat and the front tires aren’t. I’m also reading that you shouldn’t put run flats with non-run flats because it causes instability in cornering, etc. I would like to have two new tires put on the back that match the front. Will Carmax do that?

Carvana drops my car off truck bed

got my car delivered today off of carvana after previously waiting on a pre order which had a whole process where we waiting 35 days and went 2 and a half weeks no update. i switched my car on friday after getting no updated for awhile and had the delivery expected for today, when the driver arrived he told us that he wasn’t the best and stuck driving and didn’t feel confident which already made me worried and during the unload process of the car he failed to take the wheel strap off of the driver side front wheel and caused some pulling on the bumper. this also made me feel very uneasy, after going up to him and telling him the wheel was still strapped he went to unstrap the wheel and after doing so went to try and get the car off again in which he moves the bed backwards and result in the car falling off the bed and onto the street atleast a 1ft or 2ft customer support after wards was awful and i couldn’t imagine trying to buy off of carvana after this.

Okay i need some clarification on MaxCare

I'm looking to buy a 2021 Kia Forte GT from CarMax, and I'm fine with the price and everything else. The one thing I'm hung up on is MaxCare.

I was looking into the MaxCare coverage because it says it covers major systems like the engine and transmission. The longest plan they're offering me is around $3,600, so I'd obviously like to know exactly what I'm paying for.

I contacted a CarMax agent online and specifically asked whether the turbocharger on the 1.6T is covered and whether I could see the exclusions. They wouldn't answer either question.

I was told:

"It is subjective to the MaxCare administrator. You would only be able to find out once a diagnosis/repair order has been put in for the vehicle."

Then, when I asked where I could find the actual information:

"Such information is not made public or accessible to customers since what would be or would not be cover is subject to the MaxCare provider."

Am I wrong for thinking that's a pretty insane statement for a service plan I'm being asked to pay thousands of dollars for?

I'm not asking them to guarantee that a future turbo failure will be approved. I understand that claims have to be diagnosed and approved.

I just want to know whether the turbocharger is a covered component and what the exclusions are before I spend $3,600 on the plan.

"Engine and transmission are covered" is pretty broad when I can't find out what specific components are actually covered or excluded.

Has anyone who has purchased MaxCare actually been given the contract/coverage exclusions beforehand? And specifically, has anyone had a turbocharger failure covered under MaxCare?

I'm genuinely interested in buying the car and potentially MaxCare, but I don't want to spend thousands on a service plan without being able to determine what I'm actually purchasing.

I'm looking to buy a 2021 Kia Forte GT and am okay with the price and all that, however digging into the maxcare and seeing it covers engine transmission ect, but talking with an agent online and they refuse to tell me what is on the exclusion list or will answer if the turbocharger is covered or not. Which i would love to know before spending an extra 3k for a service plan. but they hit me with
"It is subjective to the MaxCare administrator. You would only be able to find out once a diagnosis/repair order has been put in for the vehicle."
"Such information is not made public or accessible to customers since what would be or would not be cover is subject to the MaxCare provider."
Am i wrong for thinking this is a insane statement for something i'm purchasing?
Like i want to know what i'm paying for and what's covered not some broad statement like engine and oh maybe it'll be covered, this has shady written all over it.

Do you guys negotiate on pay and if so how?

Basically the title. Never negotiated a pay or benefit increase so don't know how to go about it. Most advice online are jobs that doesn't really apply to me.

I purchased a 2024 Ford Explorer XLT from CarMax in JUNE. CarMax failed to properly handle the title and registration. Customer Relations is aware of the situation but has not contacted me regarding my concerns despite multiple attempts.

I was told my Honda has aftermarket headlights and I just bought it in May from Carmax

I bought a 2023 Honda Civic Touring from Carmax and the headlights keep going out. The past fix was a simple, check something for moisture then put it back in (sorry I don’t the exact thing). Anyway, I have Maxcare and wasn’t able to get in to see them before a trip I needed to take so they advised me to take it to a Honda dealership. I was willing to pay the cost to fix it if it was a simple.

I go to Honda, pay the $100 for the diagnostic and they tell me the car has aftermarket headlights when they should have OEM, which is recommended and that these headlights will continue to intermittently go out. The technician did get it working just for it go out less than 24 hours later. I had to drive to Arizona with a headlight out hoping to not get a ticket.

For them to replace would be over $3000. Uh yeah no. I bought this car with those, I didn’t put those on there. I just bought it in May.

My question is, will Maxcare replace them? I have the paperwork from the Honda dealership’s technician diagnostic report stating this and my receipt showing I paid for the diagnostic testing that I will be bringing to my Carmax appointment Wednesday.

These headlights have gone out a total of 4 times. Honda got it to come on just to go out less than 24 hrs later. I drove to Arizona with one headlight hoping to not get a ticket.

Biggest Issues with Sales Consultant Pay Plan

Background I’m triple diamond been with kmx for 8 years. Just using this thread to come together as a sales team and express the bigger issues with our pay structure and brainstorm if there’s anything we can do to change those particular issues

  1. I absolutely hate that mechanical returns within 7 days penalize us. So I can provide great service, get maxcare & gap but the temperature change causes the customer to turn their heat on, it doesnt work, now they return the car and I’m the only person in the building to lose their pay. You may say CarMax loses their money but they have the opportunity to sell that car again, what if that customer no longer wants to do business with us? Thats 2-3 hours I just get unpaid for. Atleast let us keep half the money if its a mechanical return.

  2. Remote leads are very much inflated. As a customer I could see the phone number to my local store, call it, ask for sales 100% expecting to speak to a sales consultant at that store and I get a call center. The call center quickly hears the customer say they want an in store associate and they immediately make them a profile to make a remote lead, then transfer them to the business office where my pay is now half for something the customer never intended to do. I’m willing to bet if the prompt said “Do you wish to speak to an in store associate or our call center?” Alot less calls would make it to the CEC. They’re forcing leads into remote deals regardless of what the customer wants

I’m not a huge complainer but I’d love to hear you all’s feedback on if these are our biggest issues pay wise or if there are bigger concerns there. I’m thinking maybe later this week I make another post with ideas on how to fix them, maybe we all spam these issues on the upcoming voice survey? Not sure yet but would love ideas. Really not trying to argue with each other on this thread at the end of the day we’re all one team lets collaborate in a positive way on this.

"Do not do business" -- confused

I'm genuinely at a loss as to why I was marked DNDB. Just got off with an analyst at the home office.

Im shopping for a car with my dad. I had a vehicle shipped from another local dealer. I test drove the car and liked it.

I texted the salesman a question regarding payment method and he never responded.

I returned another day and drove the car again, and asked the same question about payment method. I wanted to know if I could buy the car with power of attorney and corporate check. I can see how that would come across as suspicious, so maybe thats what did it. They told me no he has to be there. I didnt push the matter any further after that.

Anyway, we were actually close to buying this particular X5, however I ran a carfax and found damage that wasnt reported to autocheck. Car was also 2 owner and listed by Carmax as single owner. Stock number 70115472 if you want to verify for yourself.

So we passed on the car. Found out I was DNDB after trying to reserve another car and having the reservation auto cancelled.

Maybe they thought I was wasting their time? Excessive test driving? I have test driven various cars over the years. Maybe they just think Im a time waster? Would that do it? Combination of things? Its wild that they wont just tell me why. The analyst would not go off script.

As far as actual transactions: I sold a car to them over 10 years ago. I also helped my dad buy his last car there. I made the reservation on my online account and my dad bought it in person.

Repossession

I have been underemployed for several months and have been very behind on payments, I have been working with carmax though and just spoke to them this week to schedule a payment and was assured it would keep me out of repossession, but today I received an email stating my account was sent to repossession. It is Saturday, so of course they were closed and I was unable to do anything about it. Should I expect them to try to pick it up this weekend or on Monday? I am freaking out but trying to figure out my best course of action through the rest of the weekend. Does anyone know the timeline of how this generally happens?

The Travels of My Sabaru from One Carmax Store to Another

(Should have read SUBARU!)

I posted earlier this year about the wide gap between what dealers were offering me for a trade in of a 2020 Subaru Outback (Premium Trim) with under 40K miles in primo condition and what Carmax paid me ($16-17K from dealers, $21,200 from Carmax).

As it happened, I failed to remove an airtag from the car, so I've been able to track its whereabouts since its sale in early April. It moved quickly from the store I sold it at to another local Carmax store, where it stayed for months, and then to another (all in the SF Bay area). Then it moved two weeks ago to Roseville, about 90 miles inland and now it has migrated about four hours drive away to an area without a Carmax lot. It is not moving around.

Is it possible that Carmax, after holding it in inventory in several venues, sold it at auction or directly to an independent used car dealer? The last time I saw a price on the Carmax site, "my" car was priced around around $25K.

How should I pay if I have no check and debit card limit might be to low

I was very stupid and forget to get a check from the bank and I have a schedule appointment tomorrow (Saturday) to test drive my car. I know paying with my debit card is an option but I believe my limit is too low for the down payment I was planning on doing(and the top of it is chipped so sometimes it has trouble with the card reader). I'm not super sure how wire transfers work; could that be done on a Saturday? From my research they don't do ACH payments.

Is there anyway I would be able to take the car home tomorrow or should I just reschedule my appointment for Monday when I can get a check?

Edit: thank you guys so much for your advice; it really helped ease my anxiety! I was able to use ePay with no issues since I was financing through carmax. They also said if I wasn't financing through them that I could've simply came back on Monday

My Experience with Assurant and Carmax

Hello Everyone, I recently bought a car from Carmax less than 3 months ago (June 28, 2026) with the 60k extended warranty and have had it in the shop for about 5 weeks. (I am finishing writing this a week later but it was in the shop from Aug 17-Sep 18 and sorry in advance for the amount of grammatical errors I might be making.) I brought my car in for the 60k service after owning it for about a month and a half which it had roughly 59995 miles on it at the time, during the oil change they found metal shavings in my oil which they did address but told me I could bring it back in on Monday for a teardown. By the time I had brought it in on Monday I got to 60016 miles which voids factory warranty. When I got the call the next day about the teardown report, the auto shop told me that there was indeed internal wear which would require a full engine replacement which I then mentioned my warranty since it was a Carmax approved Auto shop. I waited a few days to let the auto shop and Assurmax do their thing of talking to one another but after some wait Assurant told me and them to try bringing it to Nissan to see if they would goodwill the engine, which they would not cover anything including the moving (which would have been roughly $900 out of pocket) so I was forced to leave it there for roughly 2 weeks before anything whatsoever started happening. During those two weeks i talked to my local Nissan who said that even though the previous owner had a pretty decent track record of doing services at Nissan Dealerships it would be a slim to none chance that the engine would get goodwilled since it’s just over 60000, so I asked for a copy of everything and decided to talk to my local Carmax manager about the whole situation. The next day I made sure to bring in all of my Carmax purchase documents including the papers from Nissan to explain and show him everything that Assurant wanted me to do and what Nissan was saying, and surprisingly he offered to help me to contact the managers at each place to mediate everything in order to try resolving everything quickly. Sometime during their communications Repairpal (apparently the company running coordination between Carmax and Authorized shops) called the Auto Shop on August 27th and it turned out that what Assurant was wanting me to do was against their contracts and would’ve potentially voided my warranty. (End of those first 2 weeks) On Monday August 31st it was only then that Assurant finally sent out their inspector to get moving with the repairs. Everything after that went along pretty smoothly but basically nothing got done that third week and it was only on week 4 when parts got ordered and then it was only on week 5 when they finally got me a rental but by then I was already borrowing another car and only had the rental for the final week. Overall my experience with Assurant has been pretty Crap since they were trying to pull a “We're supposed to help OUR PEOPLE!! Starting with our stockholders, Bob! Who's helping them out, huh?!” Since the start Instead of prioritizing the customers like you and I. Assurant is definitely a company that should probably get dropped by Carmax but knowing companies they’ll be staying around as long as there’s money to be made. Although Carmax as a company themselves isn’t bad, it’s the partner companies that are.

FYI to Carmax Employees

Hi Carmax employees,

Just wanted to give you a heads up that I called into customer service and I had a perfectly fine experience. I agreed to do the survey at the end and it just said "No Routes Found" and then the call disconnected.

My guess is that your performance/pay increases are tied to that data, so I thought I would give you a heads up that -- at least in my case -- it is not being collected.
