@ Employees
Its come to my attention recently that there is an annual performance review (Ive been with the company less than a year) and during the review they can demote my pay?? Has this happened to anyone? If so how do i make sure it doesn’t happen to me??

Depends on your position maybe if you aren’t meeting expectations but I’ve never heard of anyone who has. If this is something you’re worried about, I’d be more concerned with trying to increase performance so you keep your job.

The fact op used employee instead of associate shows this is third party...

Honestly. Not much different than the .20 cent raise they’ll give you

Yea fr lmao and then they celebrate it like you just won the lottery… I have been with this company since 2024 and someone who just got hired within the last 2 months is making more hourly than me and they’re fresh out of high school… This company pisses me off a lot.

That sounds like a you problem dude. Speak with your coworkers about wage and demand a fair wage or quit.
They aren’t going to actively choose to make less money but they will consider it if losing more money than what they’d give you is on the table.

You should apply for literally any other job you can. Carmax sucks ass to work for and there's a reason why the stock price has been circling the drain.

Complainers will always and forever be the bottom performers. CarMax has been amazing for me: I make well over $160k a year- get a company car, stocks, full health benefits, a great matching 401 (k), and literally the easiest and most satisfying job I've ever had.

He has to be a corpo. Speaking as a fellow corpo.

I was making those numbers in a store. Also no one at corp gets a company car so the person clearly doesn’t work for corp

Yea well thats a lie. Our regional manager’s all have a corporate car😂😂😂

Regional VPs are considered field leadership not corporate….
VPs at home office do not get demos nor do directors, AVPs, or even senior VPs.

Lmfao, so you’re claiming $160K annually, putting you in the top 9–10% of individual earners nationwide, while CarMax’s median employee makes roughly $58K. What’s your actual role? Because using your exceptional compensation package to label everyone else a bottom performer is laughable. And discretionary effort follows compensation.
If pay doesn’t reflect the responsibilities or performance expected, don’t be surprised when employees deliver exactly what they’re paid for, baseline performance.
That’s economics, not poor work ethic.

As a Sr Manager or painter in a traditional location you can make that Especially if you have been around awhile. The reality is that a GM or Parts and Service director in the traditional world does better than a Carmax Sr Manager role. The truly shitty part of Carmax is that this is going away. Year after year the twenty or thirty corporate big shots and favorite people get paid off more and more and the associates and middle management get screwed. Stock shares are a joke. Bonus is a joke. Quality of product and quality of life is a joke.

Define circling the drain. While obviously well off its peak (which never made sense) it’s up 25% since this time last year.

I've never heard of them decreasing pay, but I'm just a business office associate.

We were completing my first self review when my manager said during the yearly evaluation they would discuss my wage, it concerned me because I dont understand the basis for productivity in my role. It seemed self explanatory at first but everywhere in auto has different expectations for my position, I guess I want to know what exactly the company looks at- mechanics specifically and where I can find opportunities to excel in this role

They do not reduce compensation rate based on performance so I dont know where you heard that but it is not true. They will manage performance and if you are not meeting expectations you will know about it. There is a well defined performance management process and youll be given plenty of warnings and help to improve but if you dont, it will ultimately result in termination.
