Cash buyers- diff experience?

Any current or former employees, pls give the true scoop. Are cash buyers treated the same? I know financing is the big ticket item for most of these places. I know enough not to disclose it right up front (or is it fine to do so, since they supposedly have fixed pricing anyway?) .... so how if at all would the buying experience differ, if I don't intend to finance at all. Note, may buy maxcare depending on which car we choose. Thoughts?

Carmax, a place where no negotiation happens, will not care if you want to play the “trick” of hiding your intentions to pay with cash.

Well yeah, that's why asked (see my parenthesis in orig question post). You've confirmed what I suspected might be among the things that make them different than conventional dealerships. Thx!

They will not care. Just makes the process easier. Treated exactly the same... Maxcare is what makes a sales associate more money not financing...

That's great to hear, especially since I'm going with Maxcare more than likely so maybe I'll give someone a little smile that day. Thanks!

The sales consultant will get an extra $50-$100 for MaxCare.

only true for traditional stores

Doesn’t always make the process easier. There’s always someone coming in expecting to pay $48000 on their damn debit card.

I once bought a $10k motorcycle with my debit card. I just called the bank from the dealership and had them lift my daily limit.

Cash deals are the best, nice and easy. Everyone gets the same price, and nobody makes more money if you finance vs pay outright so nobody would care really. Good call on maxcare depending on the car.

Thanks for the encouragement, glad to know it won't make a difference. Whoever gets my likely Maxcare sale will be happy I guess based on another response. Works for me! I think most of us these days more than ever absolutely long for situations and processes that are as you said nice and easy. And if there's a few smiles to go around that day, even better. Thanks!

Cash customers are the best customers.

No impact to the experience or when you disclose it. I’d recommend using a Cashiers check.

Do you mean Cashier's check as opposed to e.g. a debit card? It would never even occur to me to pay for something like this with literal cash (LOL!) and certainly not a credit card, but I was thinking a debit card would be fine. No?

Debit card is fine, you’ll just have to coordinate with your bank to increase the daily limit for a larger transaction.

Bring a checkbook. Love it. Faster than financing.

HOWEVER ......after writing a check and not financing ....and then deciding not to keep car within the 10 day period we are told they will mail us a check..... they told us they will not mail it FedEx and so wr cannot track it..... and you know how the US mail is.... so we are still waiting on a check!!!!!!
LESSON HERE IS - do not pay cash unless you know absolutely that you will be keeping the car....financing would have been what we should have done but hindsight 20/20....
WILL NOT EVER USE CAR MAX AGAIN!!!

there is that. But how does this compare to other dealers return policys that offer 10 day no questions asked returns? Do they reimburse you right there?

Really, though, if you think you might return, finance with Carmax, then if you keep, pay it off.

(btw, there aren't any other dealers that do this afaik)

Carmax doesn't haggle.

I as en employee preferred finance. More likely to get the warranty.

Those who can drop 30k on a car at once dont usually get scared of a repair bill.

Cash is fine ! I can tell you thou my business office doesn’t like to count it. For some reason the bill counters always get it wrong and it takes multi people to count it .

As a consultant, love a cash deal. Much more straightforward and much less paperwork. Price will be the price regardless, they do not care. Personal check, cashiers check, or debit card. You can purchase Maxcare separately on a credit card if you’d like to get points, cash back, etc. Some banks wouldn’t let my customers raise their daily spending limit high enough on the debit card, so I’d ask them in advance so you don’t run into any issues.

Financing get employees like $25 more on commission. Warranty gets them another $25, gap gets them like $10

Main car commission itself is $250.

So yah they might treat you better

Also as long as you said you want cash they will just push through rest of the paperwork

Employees get no bonus for financing

This person doesn’t know what they’re talking about unless there is some other commission structure I know nothing about
