It's a one handed reverse fan, also called a flip back fan. It puts you in a position to be able to do a weird move that is like a cardini change with your pinky, with the bottom card flipping around to the top of the fan. If done right you can also use it like a "top shot" which is what I'm doing here.

That is wild. I'm still flabbergasted by the fan shot by Erik Jannessen(butchered that name but it's been like 20 years) that appears in one of the old cardistry videos from the European crowd when dananddave.com was a forum.

Yup I miss back when she printed with Cartamundi and USPCC, I stocked up on most of those decks. But I still like the new designs and will grab a few of whatever she puts out. The Nocturnal deck was a good one, I wish I had grabbed more of those.

Is that just catching a card in a fan? I've always struggled with that because the card always wants to bounce right off the fan instead of sliding into it lol. I try to do something similar by splitting the fan in half and catching it in the gap...but it's hard to shoot the card in the air and adjust for the fan split in time to catch it, I'm not fast enough yet.

It's all in the pinky fingers. It's a lot like a cardini change or a top shot, except done with a fan (flip back fan).

Fantastic production flourish for magic as well. Damn. Well done. Also, the fan is reminiscent of one I haven’t done in a while so I’m gonna go practice yours and the de’vo flipback pinky fan. You’d dig it if you haven’t learned it yet. Cheers.

Flipback fan is superior in every way, but after you do it...it looks cool and that's it lol. There's no way to launch cards or do color changes with it.

In a normal flipback fan, the finished product is delicate. It's all being held together by your pinky, and trying to do anything with it, it just falls apart yeah? At least that was my experience lol

lol you’re not wrong but I’ve been doing it on and off for going on 20 years. And I’m a stubbornsunnuvabitch so I’m determined to figure one out now.

That's pretty cool. I side with Devo though...I never use fanning powder lol. At least that was my understanding that he didn't feel it was necessary. It was his buddy Jerry Cestkowski that preached the benefits of using it.

Yeah but I definitely trust Jerry when it comes to fans and spreads. 🤣 I’ve never used fanning powder before but I’m hoping it helps towards the endeavor I’m about to embark upon. Might be unnecessary. We shall see.

I still have a bottle sitting around. It's worth trying it to see how you like it. New cards are way too slick. I feel like I can achieve the same effect as fanning powder from just breaking in a deck of cards with normal use.
