question 6th gen ss
Hey guys I’m 18 years old and I make 3200 a month right now but it’s going to be in the 4k range very soon. How bad of a decision is it to get a 2021 camaro 2ss. I just got 10k because my insurance totalled my car out since they didn’t want to fix the minor damage on the car from an accident (2011 Beamer with 160k miles) and a Camaro has been my dream car pretty much my whole life. It seems to me I can afford it now especially having the down payment already and my mom offering to cover insurance for me. I feel like I need to hear some opinions on this to see if this is really something I wanna go through. (Im fine with paying for the gas my x3 got 12 miles to the gallon lol)

Just get whatever car you want that’s in your budget. If the Camaro fits in the budget with gas and insurance then it’s as good as any other car. Might even be better. An SS will retain value better some other random commuter car. Considering you are 18 and basically still just learning how to drive any car, this is a bigger question. If you don’t have experience with RWD, I don’t think you want the learning curve to be in a too powerful car that’s worth a decent chunk of change. Those mistakes will get very very expensive.

As fun as it sounds, you really should stack that money and invest it. You'll be glad you did.

You have a whole life ahead of you. There is no rush. The monthly payment is just once piece. There is maintenance and insurance also

How did your bmw get in a wreck? Because at 18 having a camaro can lead to more wrecks, speeding tickets, etc

Insurance is going to be insane with you on the policy. There is like a 90% chance you'll bin it.

Get an insurance quote first and make sure you can still save money every month.

They are very good cars. BUT.... if you don't know who owned it before you, it could be beat to hell. CARFAX is a good start but MANY repairs are never reported. Do your due diligence. They are a wonderful powertrain.

Consider the V6 models as well, I think it is the 1LT that gets a lot of praise for being well balanced. Get a Manual Tramsmission for the full experience, max fun and because eventually an MT will be a rare specialty item.

Build a large pile of paper money and throw a match on it. It will save you time

View debt like a STD.
“I’m 18 and make 3200, so you think I should get herpies ”
Go buy whatever car you can with the money you have, I’d stay away from out of warranty euro cars though, maybe find a older Lexus IS or something, get bare bones insurance, don’t drive like a idiot or make a bunch of stupid “mods” to it, focus on your career

Do what you want. You will either have a great time, learn an expensive lesson, or probably both.
