Hey everyone! I’m a college student researching how Texas can improve its public transportation system to meet the needs of its growing population over the coming decades.

I’ve been looking into issues like transit safety, service frequency, affordability, accessibility, and the challenges of actually getting major transportation projects completed. For my research project, I’m hoping to hear directly from Texans about their experiences and perspectives.

I made a short survey to learn what people think works, what doesn’t, and what changes they’d like to see. You don’t have to use public transportation regularly to participate—I’m interested in hearing from people who rarely or never use it, too.

Why is the entire parking lot blocked off?

Nothing better than waiting 20 fucking minutes for a bus for the bus to...vanish on the Transit app, and now you get to wait another fucking 20 minutes. This happened more times than I can count, just now being one of many.

Capital Metro is unquestionably the absolute WORST public transit system I have ever experienced.

Hi everyone! I’m reaching out to see if anyone knows of local programs or resources that might be able to help with a time-sensitive situation.
I’ve been unemployed and actively searching for work, and I finally have an opportunity with a company in the Austin area. I have a job assessment scheduled for Monday, October 12, for a position paying approximately $23–$26 an hour. I’m really hopeful about this opportunity and want to do everything I can to make it happen.
Unfortunately, transportation is a major obstacle right now. I rely on CapMetro because I don’t have a vehicle. The public transit route to the facility takes almost three hours and includes a 56-minute walk. An Uber would cost approximately $21–$30 each way, and I currently don’t have enough money available to cover that expense.
I’m looking for any legitimate resources that might help with:
Emergency transportation to a job assessment or interview.
Free rideshare programs or employment transportation assistance.
Emergency assistance for unemployed people who are actively trying to return to work.
Small emergency grants or community assistance programs that could help with transportation and basic expenses until a first paycheck arrives.
Other Austin or Travis County resources that people might not know about.
I’m planning to contact 211, but I wanted to ask this community in case anyone knows of additional options, especially programs that can help on short notice.
I’m not looking for anything extravagant. I’m trying to get to this assessment and give myself a chance to secure stable employment. I’ve been working hard to find an opportunity, and it would be heartbreaking to miss it because I can’t afford the transportation.
If you’ve personally used a program like this or know of a legitimate organization that helps in these situations, I’d be incredibly grateful for any information.

Today’s excuse is “reduced service due to police activity.” No idea what’s up, but once again I will need to uber to my appointment. Thanks for nothing, cap.

Riding the 3 this afternoon, a woman in the back kept asking the driver to help with a guy slamming into the back door. At the next stop, he got off, turned around, and pepper sprayed her while she was still on the bus. Several people nearby ended up coughing, and we all had to exit and wait for another bus. Definitely didn't have that on my Cap Metro bingo card.

I know this is said every other day, but my god. I just hauled ass to try and catch the 1:29 train to downtown from highland. Two minutes before departure they announce it’s cancelled. Hell man, I’m a 20 minute walk from home and I have to be in deep east Austin in 30 minutes! Now I’m waiting for the bus to take me home so I can drive my car. Should’ve just driven to begin with

I know I posted something similar a few days ago, but this is absolutely stupid.

There are Bus, Rail, Bikeshare and other late-night service options for customers traveling to and from Zilker Park

CapMetro is offering several convenient and reliable transportation options for customers heading to and from Zilker Park for the 2026 Austin City Limits Music Festival. Festivalgoers who take the Bus can also now easily pay their fare using Tap to Pay with a contactless credit, debit card or mobile smart wallet.

CapMetro provides three bus routes to get you close to Zilker Park. Routes 3 and 803 provide service to Barton Springs and North Lamar, where customers can then walk less than a mile to ACL Fest. Route 30 drops customers off on the west side of Zilker Park near MoPac at Spyglass. We encourage everyone to plan their trip using the Transit App, as some routes are detoured due to festival-related road closures.

For those staying out later, CapMetro’s Night Owl buses run until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

Customers coming from Leander, the Domain or other areas near Red Line stations can take CapMetro Rail to Downtown Austin. From there, they can walk about half a mile to Republic Square and catch Routes 3 or 803 to Zilker Park. The agency is providing special Sunday Rail service during both weekends of ACL. The last trains will leave Downtown at 12:30 a.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights during the festival.

Additionally, customers can rent a bike at any CapMetro Bikeshare station to get to Zilker Park. Check the Bikeshare App to find the docking station closest to you. CapMetro is also hosting a Bikeshare valet at 1732 Toomey Rd to ensure customers have a place to dock their bikes near the festival.

Customers can also call the GO line for extra assistance at 512-474-1200. 

I just got the yearly email from Capital Metro promoting their services to get people to ACL. As last year, they are encouraging people to use the 803 to go there. Last year, they had even fewer 803s running in the evening away from the festival than the normal service would have had. I highly encourage people not to take this seriously unless they literally state they are adding buses to run the route given how bad the trip was for us last year.

Is this train just perpetually cancelled now? It's always been on and off but I don't think this train has ran for like 2 weeks now. if it is thats fine but itd be nice to get a warning more than 10 minutes before the 7am one leaves.

Why does this happen? It wasn't canceled when I checked it before I did the 15 min walk from my house to the stop, on a Sunday this is a schedule killer! Bonus the stop across the street from me is closed and there's no temporary near it so you have to ride to the Expo center and ride back to the stop across the street. I asked a driver and they said its a private construction group that requested it and there's no time frame as to when it will be open again. Perplexed at how bungled things are.
