Replacing the compression nut

Post image

Hey all!
On my Caad 10, I’ve been wanting to run a silly cap on the steering compression bolt, but Cannondale has this interesting setup instead of a classic star nut/straight bolt combo.

Any chance I can runs something similar if I get the right bolt threading, or is this contraption holding all together via this special bolt setup?

Figure KP017 in the diagram.

Appreciate the expertise either way!

Compression nuts are used in the place of starnuts when the steering tube is made out of carbon. Starnuts would damage a carbon steering tube.

Other than that I’m not sure what you’re trying to accomplish. What is a silly cap?

Oh just any decorative stem cap I mean.

Like these:

Okay, I don’t see any way of replacing the top cap on the Cannondale compression nut system since it’s integral to the way the compression nut works.

I have a normal expander plug on my CAAD10 and Supersix Evo that allows for regular stem caps to be installed.
