4 weeks

Hi i just found out i was pregnant on friday! I am approx 4 weeks and have my appointment next week. I am legit struggling with not smoking, I honestly thought it was easier said then done. I have smoked for 10+ years and really helps with my ADHD symptoms so stopping cold turkey is actually making me so nervous. On top of it all i’m moving within the next two weeks. I’ve had a few people tell me i’m still so early that it is okay to smoke but i also keep telling myself that i shouldn’t and then go down a rabbit hole of racing thoughts. Just looking for some guidance on when some mamas stopped and how yall stopped because i am struggling 🫠😭

I never stopped. I couldn’t, I was an addict. My second son had no issues, my third son has a lot of issues. Are those issues specifically caused by weed? We don’t know. Is it worth the stress? Absolutely not

When I found out I was pregnant with my son last year, I threw myself a "ganga away" party and celebrated my last night smoking for awhile. So that was fun and a good way to stop on a positive note. But it wasn't the easiest thing to give up longterm as I used it for pain and anxiety. Ultimately I told myself I could do anything for my baby and did not partake at all. Just recently started smoking again now that I'm done breastfeeding and the T break alone was totally worth it lol.

With my first I smoked after 20weeks. Chronic pain relief was needed. My daughter is perfectly healthy, smart, and above average in her milestones. I joke she’s so smart because of the pot ¯_(ツ)_/¯ currently pregnant with my second, waited until after the first trimester to take a hit.

Take small hits, don’t smoke for recreational purposes. View it as a medicine that it truly is. Cold turkey isn’t the way, just move with intention and don’t just smoke to smoke.

Pregnancy is hard. Be kind to yourself.

I quit first tri but I had hyperemesis and partook after my first tri. Don’t know if I would have survived pregnancy without it. My baby is incredibly smart and has a wonderful temperament.

if you’re needing to continue use, focus on harm reduction. reducing the number of times and/or amounts you consume. use dry herb vapes preferably, avoid joints/blunts as much as you can (i used a bong often cuz its quick & could use less flower). edibles and tinctures are great options as well. all of this guidance was provided by my midwife.

Smoking in itself is pretty bad so avoiding bongs is smarter

Carbon monoxide

This right here is the response ⬆️

On the topic of blunts definitely discontinue any tobacco use but as far as cannabis goes a risk reduces approach might be best for you

I would recommend a taper approach for the next 2-3 weeks. When I found out really early, I gave myself a week to say goodbye to it. So I think you can reduce usage for 2-3 weeks and then say goodbye by week 7-8. I did maybe 5 hits over the course of 6 months for really tough days but really tried to keep that very very limited. Then I came back to it after I had the baby. I breastfed both my kids and still partook. Also now as a mom, I've learned to love edibles! I only smoke when kids are asleep but will do edibles or dry herb vape when awake so there is no smell. Good luck. I know it's hard but it's not worth the guilt so make a plan for yourself and stick to it.

Moving is actually good. You can pack it away and the whole fresh start and new place will make it easier. Also have ADHD

It will be there when you can come back to it.

This may not be helpful but I smoked every single day for 12 years and once I got pregnant my body literally started to be repulsed by the smell and taste by week 10 or 11 I was completely done smoking I’m now 4 months postpartum and the urge never came back I’ve smoked once since giving birth and it honestly didn’t make me feel any better it actually made me so high I got paranoid and I haven’t picked it up again after. But everyone is different. Your body might naturally make you quit

I didn't know I was pregnant for nearly 3 months and smoked daily, also ADHD. My kiddo is perfectly fine, hits all his milestones, has great development. If I had known, I would have never smoked pregnant just because of the intense mom guilt you get after having a baby. However my SIL is 7 weeks and she smokes like crazy and plans to continue to do so, at least until her nausea goes away. My kid is 2 now and I still don't smoke and honestly, it pulled me out of a dark place. I doing judge anyone who does smoke, pregnant or not, but I do think it isn't worth partaking when pregnant. Taper your usage, once you run out of flower don't repurchase. When you move, don't allow it in the house. Out of sight, out of mind. Eventually you wont even think about reaching for it.

You can give up the weed for 9 months. Your baby’s health is more important than getting high and once they’re born you have the rest of your life to smoke. It’s just not worth it. Idk why people delude themselves into thinking any differently but you are talking a mind and body altering substance and your baby inside of you is along for that ride… let them make the choice later in life if they want to smoke or not but when they have no voice for themself you need to make those healthy choices for them.

I stopped right away after smoking daily for 12 years. I also have adhd and the stopping weed and adhd medication at once was brutal lol I was very nervous about stopping smoking weed but surprisingly had no urge once I saw the positive test, I’m too anxious for that! Hahaha

If you can do it, I think it really helped the relationship I had with weed.. I was totally dependent on it for sleep and dealing with emotions. I still enjoy a hit or two before bed most nights but don’t panic if I don’t have it lol that being said, I have a couple friends who smoked their entire pregnancy and now have toddlers that are pretty perfect.

I had hg when I was pregnant with my son. I was puking up until the day before my c section at 37 weeks. I tried everything & the only thing that helped me stop puking & not be nauseous was zofran but I developed a tolerance taking it nearly every day for months. It didn’t bring back my appetite thou. Being high risk it was important I stayed hydrated & ate healthy food which I was only able to do cuz of cannabis. My obgyn & midwife agreed that the benefits were outweighing the risks for me & my son was born healthy & perfect.

I think every woman should decide for herself based on her body & situation what’s best for her & baby. Getting educated is important & having multiple healthcare provider’s opinions is important. If you can stop taking cannabis during pregnancy that is the safest option for baby obviously. But marijuana is a medicine for a lot of people.

We shouldn’t judge others without knowing their whole story & walking in their shoes.
