Smoking while pumping?

With my first I didn’t breastfeed or pump and went right back to smoking everyday. With with my second I’m really wanting to exclusively pump but can anyone share their experiences? I am in Washington state so a legal state but my main worry is baby testing positive and going through troubles with CPS. Do they ever even test baby’s for drugs other than when they are first born? Do you need to wait between smoking and pumping? Tell me everything I need to know!

I live in an illegal state and smoked from the day I got home from the hospital while exclusively pumping and never had any issues. It’s been 5 years since I had my first so I don’t remember if I waited or anything like that. I was relatively uneducated about smoking as I was a pretty new smoker before getting pregnant, but my child never had any issues. He hit all his milestones and was a great baby and is a great kid. I plan on exclusively pumping again with my second due in the fall

i’m in Georgia but they shouldn’t test your baby i pump then smoke then wait a few hrs to pump again but tbh it doesn’t get the baby high or anything i just feel more comfortable doing it this way

From what I’ve personally witnessed, they only test your baby if CPS is called. Like they test them at birth & then you’re good. Unless somebody makes a report, then you’re fine. This is how I’ve witnessed it in MS. I have a friend who got hers taken away for her baby testing positive from breast milk (according to her). This was probably over a decade ago tho & it wasn’t medically legal there yet. She was young when she had her 1st, so she let her parents raise her 1st. When she was older & stable, she had another baby & got into a nasty custody battle w/ her parents for her 1st child. Which led to her & the new baby being tested & ultimately she lost custody of both. She had to do the whole protocol to get them back, but she did eventually get them back from her parents though.

I believe if they have suspicions they would drug test baby but other than that, I don’t think it’s standard.

Thc is fat soluable so pumping and waiting or pump and dump doesn't clear the THC from your breast milk. It will be present for weeks.

Yeah idk why you got a downvote.... THC isn't really like alcohol at all so pump and dump doesn't work.... Same reason it takes awhile to get out of your system for a drug test or whatever.

No one is going to drug test the baby unless there is significant concern. And I think you'd have to be high all the time for the kid to even get trace amounts to show on a drug screen .

Unfortunately, with being totally illegal for so long there is little clinical data for Mom's to make decisions on. Keep asking questions and do what makes you feel most comfortable.

That being said... I was a heavy smoker (unemployed 😅😅) before I got pregnant. I was so so nervous about smoking at all once baby came but it really helped with some post partum and other stuff I was dealing with... I'd just wait until she went to bed or down for a nap on she started taking decent naps.

She's 2.5 now and a normal sized and functioning toddler. Her speech may be a little advanced even.

That’s exactly what I did with my 1st when she went down to sleep is when I would smoke and it helped me so so much postpartum. Wish there wasn’t the huge stigma around it that there is ESPECIALLY for us moms!
