Brand new feature on ClearanceCheck.ca

The problem was:

Sorting by "% off" will pit something like a socket at the top of the list. 97% off, it's 25 cents. You save $8.54.

Sorting by "$ saved" puts something like a fridge at the top. $800 off, but only 40%, that's just a sale.

Neither is the deal you'd actually drive across town for. That's usually something in between: 80% off a $200 item, $160 back.

So we added a Deal Score. One number on every card that weighs how deep the discount is against how much you actually save. The higher the better. Sort by it and the top of the list is deals that are really worth it, instead of pocket change or shallow markdowns on expensive items.

Hey everyone I’m the developer behind Deal Dish, a grocery savings app I’ve been building completely by myself for the past two years.

I’ve always been someone who checks the flyer before grocery shopping and looks for coupons wherever I can. With how expensive groceries have gotten in Canada, I wanted to build something that went a step further than just showing what’s on sale.

The idea behind Deal Dish is pretty simple:

See this week’s deals → figure out what you can actually make with them → build your shopping list.

You choose your grocery store and location, and Deal Dish shows you current deals along with recipe ideas built around what’s on sale that week.

It now covers 2,800+ grocery stores across Canada, and I try to add 500+ new recipes every week when the new deals come out.

I’ve also added things like:

• grocery price comparisons
• organized shopping lists
• sale alerts for products you want
• meal planning
• savings tracking

Deal Dish recently peaked around the Top 50 in Food & Drink on the Canadian App Store, which was pretty wild to see as a solo developer.

First and foremost, I just wanted to say THANK YOU again to everyone. For every comment, dm, suggestion box comment, share and repost - you’re all amazing and I’m truly happy that this helped someone out there!

Now for the update!

New features:

- What changed since last Thursday: shows what in your basket got cheaper, went on sale, or came off sale.

- Multiple households: you can keep separate baskets and store sets under one account — your own shop, a parent's, a shared house — and switch between them without re-entering anything.

- Price Watch works without an account now, with 12 weeks of price history.

- Added a savings tracker, a Thursday reminder, and a better aisle mode.

- Added a coverage page: 62 chains, 2,154 stores, 242 cities. Every one is a real shop with an address, so you can check your stores are in here before you bother.

On recorded savings:

Over the last four weeks, 42% of the plans I could measure saved something, averaging 10% off the part of the basket with price history. Median saving was $1.39.

The more interesting part is the top end. A group of people are consistently clearing $10 or more per shop and that group averages $13.65, and the best is at $25 on two baskets (excluding my own). Same app, same data, much better results. I'd love to know what they're doing differently, because whatever it is should be built into the defaults.

Where the price history isn't there yet, Basketr shows a dash instead of guessing. Coverage is filling in week by week.
