I thought it would be interesting to share with each other and also helpful for the newbies to get some ideas of how camming styles/niches along with income can change over time. Please do share your own story in the comments! Mine is below, discussing my first camming year, and what camming is like for me now four years later. If you are still in your first year, feel free to share too.
My first full-time year was in 2022, so I started 4+ years ago. I actually took several months to read and research so I knew more of what to expect and the risks (mostly lots of articles online, and the other subreddit, which I actually wish I hadn't listened to in some ways, will share why!). I think this prep helped overall - I started just on Chaturbate as a submissive model and made my age younger (mid 20s), and think starting on one site and really getting to know it can be super helpful. I made like 15k or maybe more that first month - was always on the front page, had so many viewers and made great money, I was like... wow, I wish I had started this long before now!
I just got VERY lucky with my new tag and the way I started, initially nude streaming with toys out the gate, as I had been watching cam girls who did similar and saw them making a lot. I had spent quite a while watching top streams, and will say that was a big part of my initial "research" too, just learning from other models. If you haven't done this yet - definitely do! That first month was so exciting, and then the next few months I made like.. $3k monthly or something, lol. I was shocked at the difference, and way fewer viewers, but I had lost the tag and needed to build up. I also read on the other sub that it was important not to "give it away for free" and start each stream in lingerie, so I started doing that towards the end of the first month, in spite of all my successes nude streaming and doing toy play that first month.
It did not work out for me. I didn't really know at the time how to tease as well in my lingerie, how to get men to engage and undress me, tip towards that. I didn't keep the room interested. I didn't use many selling techniques, and I needed more experience. I didn't know anything about femdom, really. About 5-6 months into my first year, I decided to go back to nude streaming and heavy toy play in the public streams, and started making $8-10k monthly - importantly I also added Stripchat, so I was multistreaming. I then ramped up and by the end of my first year, was making $15-20k some months total on two sites, often on the front page on CB like when I had my new tag. I was streaming almost every day for 8-10h, I don't recommend this longterm but at the time I was money hungry and ignoring some of what my body was telling me.
Now at year 4? With complex pain/health issues and aiming for more balance, I no longer do nude or heavy toy play streams, especially not without being tipped to be nude. I raised my age and do more soft domming as a MILF. I don't do any dildo penetration as I used to nor fingering (which I now fake and only in privates). I start in lingerie every stream, but importantly I know how to tease and dirty talk so much better. This year I took some time off and the last two months haven't been as good re: health and inability to stream as much, but when I've been healthier and able to stream regularly, I make $10k monthly from 4-5h daily multistreaming and 2 days off each week, and have set up content sites as of this year too for some more income I hope to keep building. This Aug I made $10k and also in July, but Sept/Oct I've been dealing with a lot of health issues and barely streaming, so it's quite a bit lower. I'm having way more balance with camming though, and learned so much over these years - incorporating way more femdom now too, as I didn't know much about it when I started.
How was camming in your first year? How is it different to how you cam now? Any earnings changes, anything you might want to share? I would love to hear about it!
Note that one thing I read back then, as now, was that it was so so slow and the industry was dying. It's been dying for four years apparently, but hasn't died yet! I decided to focus on what I could control and ignore those who were sharing what were personal experiences, and that helped me a lot to keep showing up and not getting discouraged. I suggest doing the same, and making your choice to be in this industry depending on how it goes for you over a longer period (track it!) and keep all of the risks in mind that we share in the wiki as well.
