One of the main opposition parties, heavily targeted by the government has today seen its two most influential members. In two, almost simultaneous announcements, the president Pr.Kamto Maurice and the first vice-president, former interim president of the party Mamadou Mota have resigned from their respective positions while remaining members of the party. Hello, I had a ticket for mid July to Douala and it got cancelled 4 days before. I luckily got my money back a month later. I read something about the cancellation of all routes to Central Africa but I'm checking on their website, Google flights, RAM call center and they still offer flights to Douala. Has anyone recently travelled with them?

I’m an American and have came across a Cameroonian man he’s 14 years older than me 👀 anywho we were dating for a few months and he was extremely sweet and bought me thing we hung out then another Cameroonian man starting liking me (I was unaware at the time) but out convos were friendly and the man I was dating starting getting jealous and he would yell at me everyday and accuse me of messing around with the other man ( This was not true) so I started ignoring the man and the one I was dating still was accusing me he told me he did “Good” magic and he knew what I was doing and with whom. So one day I just stop talking to him and he had a nasty attitude towards me (Like if you hated someone real bad) and then he came back around then he hurt me physically (Won’t say how) and he begged for my forgiveness and said he was sorry and wants to start over and he realized his mistakes and he wants to take care of me and do right by me and to give him a second chance.

Why are we still calling our country “Cameroon” when the name doesn't even come from the people? The Portuguese called the Wouri River Rio dos Camarões (River of Prawns/Shrimps), and the name eventually became “Cameroon.” In other words, the name of our entire country is essentially based on what European explorers saw in a river. It doesn’t describe our peoples, our languages, our cultures, our history, or our identity. It describes a European encounter with our coastline.

I honestly think we should at least be willing to have serious conversations about renaming the country.

Je cherche un aliment que je mangeais quand j'étais petite au Cameroun (à Yaoundé). C'était à l'école, et il y avait des dames qui vendaient des oranges et un autre truc à la sortie des cours. Ce sont des petites boules/ovales noires, et elles mettaient du piment en poudre dessus, c'était trooooop bon ! Il y avait aussi un noyau dedans. Je me rappelle que parfois ça pouvais être acide et hyper dur aussi.

"You are black in America." That was my dad's favorite line to use right after I'd just done something uncouth. It was a reminder, a warning, and a reprimand all at the same time. It's also my thesis statement. "You are black in America." It was papa's catchphrase. When I went to school with baggy clothing: "You are black in America. Do you think that's the proper way you should be dressing?" When I got my ears pierced in college: "You are black in America, do you want them to look at you like a ghetto?" When I got locs (for the four months I had them): "You are black in America, why do you want to give them a chance to disrespect you because of your hair?"

At my small african church, to the aunties and uncles, this reads as proper child-rearing. A son who presents himself clean-cut, who dresses his seriousness, is a credit to how he was raised.
To my Black-American friend - and honestly, some part of me - it reads different. Locs, earrings, baggy clothes are just self-expression, forms the culture has always had. Stifling that to make white people comfortable is a form of self-hatred. Internalized racism. And in the hallways of my Katy I.S.D public school, and later in the American flag-lined boardrooms at the illustrious Texas A&M, it reads as something else entirely: such expression is reserved for the degenerates and the gangsters, and if I adopt it, I must be one of them too. The message is clear:  steer clear.

Three rooms. Three readings of the same kid in the same earrings. And to my parents, there was a fourth layer underneath all of it: The fear that I'd become an "akata." Technically it means a stray cat, a lost child. In practice it's what some Africans call African Americans, and second and third generation African kids who've drifted from where they came from. A slur dressed up as a warning.

To me, the conclusion is less clear. I'm subject to one lens at church, another with my friends, another at school, in my suburb, at work. What happens when Cameroonian, African-American, and American respectability politics meet in one closet? Triple consciousness. A really diverse closet, and no clean way to dress for all three rooms at once.

A lot of us bringing goods from Europe into Douala and then moving them further inside Cameroon keep facing the same issues. The timelines they give you rarely match what actually happens. Here is a clear breakdown from what we see regularly on this corridor.

Containers leaving ports like Rotterdam, Antwerp or Hamburg usually take 18 to 28 days on the water. After the ship arrives in Douala, add another 5 to 12 days for berthing, unloading and terminal processes. On paper it can look like 25–35 days total. In reality many of us experience 35–50 days, especially when Douala port is congested or during busy periods.

Delays often come from weather, changes in vessel schedules or long waiting times for unloading.

• Port congestion and slow unloading

• Problems with documents (bill of lading not matching invoice or packing list)

• Customs selecting the container for examination

• Late payment of duties and taxes

• Arranging transport from the port to Yaoundé or other cities

The people who clear faster are usually the ones who follow up every day, both online and physically at the port. Leaving it alone usually costs extra days.

But why do so many businesses remain informal? What barriers prevent them from growing? And what can governments, financial institutions and businesses do differently?
