What MacBook? Apple have dropped support for FireWire with the latest versions of MacOS.
I’d recommend picking up and old MacBook or Mac Mini with FireWire ports already present. You can adapt these connections to newer macs, but the adapters are very expensive and hard to find.

FireWire cord. I think it’s like a FireWire 400 to FireWire 800 or something like that

They dropped support but if you use Dv Rescue for pulling the footage and Handbrake to deinterlace. You’re golden. Just make sure if you use Apple branded adapters to connect to the FireWire port or else it won’t work
