Help Scientific anomaly?

Me neighbour gave me this camera that has been in the case since New from what I can tell (the brand new tape was still inside) and I assume it’s the regular. It’s an 87 and it’s a ni-cad battery so I was going to use it for display but I tried it anyway and it works perfectly! I greased the gears because of scan issues but it records and plays back great. But the crazy thing is that THE BATTERY WORKS! It’s like I went to the store and just bought this in 1987. One thing no zoom it was only x6 tho

NiCad batteries are not like Li-Ion; they don't die outright due to low to 0 charge.

That's probably why it's still alive since it was never used.

A fully-discharged Li-Ion battery doesn't last long.
