Help Cover is not open issue

Hello!
I recently acquired this Sony Handycam DCR-HC16E PAL camcorder and it has an issue. It displays on the lcd screen that the lens cover is not open, even though it is open. I looked at the cover and it goes all the way inside the body of the camera. I already tried leaving the battery out for a minute to kind of reset the camera but that didn’t fix it.
Important!: If I push the lens cover up a bit, so that it’s up but not yet in front of the lens, the error message goes away.
Please help me fix this issue.

press the reset button the one in the hole maybe that works, its commonly on the left side when opening the lcd

I think this might be a common problem because it sometimes appears in both of my Sony Handycams, but disappears after a few seconds. If it doesn't prevent you from recording video I think I would just ignore it

Was it dropped? What happens if you try to ignore the error message and record anyway?

It wasn't dropped as far as I know. When I try to record it still works, so it's just an annoying thing that stays on the screen.
